VALUATION SET FOR 16-GOAL EFL FORWARD AS RANGERS, SUNDERLAND, SWANSEA CITY AND CARDIFF CITY

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Morecambe would be set to demand a fee of around £500,000 for their in-demand forward Carlos Mendes Gomes this summer.

Mendes Gomes enjoyed an excellent campaign in League Two for Morecambe last season and the attacker played a pivotal role in helping them earn promotion to League One for the first time in their history. In total, the 22-year-old managed to fire in 16 goals and provided five assists in his 46 appearances last season.

Football League World previously revealed that there are a number of teams that are interested in making a move for Mendes Gomes during the summer transfer window.

It is believed that the likes of Cardiff City, Swansea City, Sunderland, Hull City, Peterborough United, Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and Luton Town are all in the race for his signature.

Further reports from the Scottish Sun outlined that Scottish Premier League champions Rangers are also interested in potentially making a move to sign Mendes Gomes after his impressive campaign for Morecambe in League Two.

The latest update from The Sun journalist Nixon reveals that Morecambe are going to want in the range of half a million for their star attacker this summer. While it also added that they would be hoping to have as much of that fee guaranteed as possible.

The Verdict

This seems like a reasonable transfer fee for Morecambe to be demanding for Mendes Gomes this summer after he managed to help play such a vital role in getting them promoted into the third tier of English football. He could have been available on a free this summer, but his current club had the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months so they can now command a fee for him.

You would expect the likes of Rangers and Cardiff City and maybe even Sunderland being willing to pay around the half a million mark to secure the services of Mendes Gomes this summer. It does not seem too steep a fee to pay out for someone that could well be able to provide some real extra attacking spark to all three of those sides.

The problem for Mick McCarthy's Cardiff City, he has been told their are no funds available unless he sells first.

Saw him in the playoffs and he looked pretty good. Not a world beater but worth a go for £500,000. Rather suspect we are in the out of contract free transfer market though and won't get him.

Notice how we are still going for cheap deals from lower leagues. I know we brought in Mendez-Laing and Etheridge from lower league teams and they were amazing for us and still are if at the right club. I cant wait to see who leaves our team maybe Glatzel and Whyte will leave us. I have small confidence in the team being made up by McCarthy and mixture between our youngsters and players who yet to show there true potential in a higher league along with a few veterans of course. So as long as if we keep the main players in Moore Smithies Morrison Nelson Flint and so on we will be fine.
