Andre Ayew is embraced by Wayne Routledge after Swansea City's play-off final defeat to Brentford
Wayne Routledge has been offered a new contract as Andre Ayew leaves Swansea City, it has been confirmed.

The Swans have announced their retained list following the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

Ayew and Routledge were both out of contract this summer.

Routledge has spent 10 seasons with the Swans and was part of the side that won the League Cup under Michael Laudrup in 2013.

He has been a pivotal figure on and off the pitch under Steve Cooper but missed the Championship play-off final defeat to Brentford at Wembley after suffering a serious knee injury against Barnsley in the semi-finals.

But the experienced attacker has been offered a one-year contract extension as he recovers from knee surgery.

As for Ayew, he ended both campaigns under Cooper to date as the club's top scorer.

Kieron Freeman - who joined on a short-term deal from Swindon Town in January - is among those to depart the club this month.

Conor Hourihane, Marc Guehi and Freddie Woodman have returned to Aston Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle United respectively following their loan spells with the Swans.

Elsewhere, Declan John and Barrie McKay - who were on loan at Bolton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town respectively last term - have seen their Swansea careers come to an end.

Several members of the under-23s have also been released, including Jordi Govea who was signed from Real Madrid in 2018.

Under-23s stars Ali Al-Hamadi, Jacob Jones and Jamie Searle have all been offered fresh terms.

In addition, six academy players - Geoff Bony, Josh Carey, Joel Cotterill, Ben Lloyd, Jada Mawongo and Evan Watts - have been offered two-year scholarships with the club.

Swansea City's retained list

Adrian Akande, Steven Benda, Ryan Bennett, Jake Bidwell, George Byers, Ben Cabango, Rio Campbell, Brandon Cooper, Ollie Cooper, Liam Cullen, Yan Dhanda, Cameron Evans, Jay Fulton, Jordon Garrick, Josh Gould, Matt Grimes, Ben Hamer, Harry Jones, Joel Latibeaudiere, Jamal Lowe, Ryan Manning, Lincoln McFayden, Kyle Naughton, Connor Roberts, Tivonge Rushesha, Korey Smith, Josh Thomas, Lewis Webb, Morgan Whittaker, Daniel Williams.

In fairness Routledge has been a hell of a signing for them.

No where near the same class but is essentially their Whitts.

That's £80,000 a week they've saved on Ayew.
