Think I’m right in saying the club owns the ground and car park but not the land where all the shops are

Tan owns the club and the stadium is a part of that I believe. I'm also pretty sure scumsea now own their stadium after purchasing it from the council in recent years. Dont quote me on this though

The ground is owned by club which means tan but unlike derby and others tan or any other owner cannot sell ground due to council covenant or similar ..... swans dont think they've bought stadium just got it on 35yr lease as ospreys still play there swans got lease for peanuts ....

The freehold is owned by Cardiff Council , with the club having a 150 year lease on it starting in 2009 when it was built.

Swansea signed a 35 year lease on the Liberty Stadium with Swansea City Council who in turn were delighted with the opportunity for the rate payers of Swansea to see a return on their £27m investment. 13 years rent free despite those years of £m's of Premier League money. I bet VT would love a bit of that action.

No we lease it on a long lease from the Council. We didn`t own Ninian Park either but the council allowed the club to keep the proceeds of sale to put towards the new stadium build costs.

I thought the club OWN the ground (bricks and mortar) but lease the land on a peppercorn rent for 150 years

You are correct , but the stadium on land which it doesn`t own would be a little difficult to sell :D It also has a 20 year restrictive covenant on it that it can only be used for professional sport. From memory , the rent currently payable is about £300k a year. The Council also hold a charge over the stadium in return for making a capital contribution towards its build cost.

Yes, this is correct; and it done to safeguard the ground on which the stadium is built to prevent it being sold for non-sporting purposes. This will ensure the nefarious actions of some (not our) club owners like Covenrty City cannot be repeated :thumbright:

I always thought that the club (or holding company) were the owners of the stadium (bricks and mortar but not the land it is built on). In turn the club (or holding company) was owned by its shareholders of which Vincent Tan had by far the biggest share holding.
