Set to be appointed at Ross County

Ross County: Malky Mackay set to be appointed manager

BBC

Wednesday 26th May 2021

Malky Mackay is set for a return to management with Ross County

Malky Mackay is set for his first job as a manager in six years, with Ross County expected to appoint him as John Hughes' successor.

The ex-Watford and Cardiff City boss, 49, ended a four-year stint as Scottish FA performance director in November.

Mackay's last full-time managerial role was at Wigan Athletic where he was sacked after five months.

Hughes, who replaced Stuart Kettlewell in December, left on Monday after keeping County in the top flight.

Manager Hughes leaves Ross County

Mackay resigns as SFA performance director

The Dingwall club finished 10th and have been in the Scottish Premiership for eight of the last nine seasons.

Mackay had a one-game interim spell as Scotland boss in November 2017 - a 1-0 friendly defeat by Netherlands - following Gordon Strachan's departure.

The former Celtic and Scotland defender began his managerial career with a two-year spell at Watford before joining Cardiff in 2011.

He led the Welsh club to the Championship title and a return to the English top flight after a 52-year absence.

Mackay was sacked in December 2013 with Cardiff a point outside the relegation zone, and months later apologised for sending texts that were "disrespectful of other cultures".

This hasn't gone down well in Dingwall, there's already a lot of pressure on the board to reverse this decision.

For me, despite the good job he did at our club, it will never override the shocking racist things he said.

Good luck Malky, one of my favourite City managers.

Tough job he has taken on but if he can inspire them to the top half he will begin to attract attention from English sides in lower ends of Championship and higher end of League One.

More cancel culture

You might have a point if MM hadn't apologised for the texts. He also went on some kind of diversity course. At some point he has to be forgiven and 6 years later surly he has reached that point.

There are criminals (BTW MM was never convicted of any criminal offence) who have done far worse including violence who are considered to have paid their debt to society after 6 years of prison or other punishment.

Give the bloke a chance FFS.

At the rate it's going everyone will be cancelled for something.

In this case the punishment is way over the top for the crime.

Sadly, there are an increasing number od G3vans in the world directing policy from their armchair; but a closer look would probably show a fair bit of hypocrisy going on...

Most people will see it as you say Chris, but some people never forgive a person, for whatever reason?? He paid dearly, its done and dusted, the man deserves to be allowed to move on in his life.not sure I'd like him back here myself, as his football was dire, and he didnt spend too wisely either, but good luck to him, wherever he ends up, we have a new MM at the helm now.CCFC.

I think he made a terrible mistake and paid a more than heavy price for it. I hope people forgive him and move on. Jeez, there are so many more terrible things people have done and gotten away with.

I think part of the problem at Cardiff was that he was given free reign and no one was around to keep his ego in check. After all he was only a young man himself.

I wish him luck.

If the public can except an ex criminal has served his time and should be given a fresh start then Malky after 6 years surely should be forgiven He may still hold the same views but as long as he does not go public with them then why not accept him back into management

Couple of good results he’ll be a hero and past misdemeanours will be forgotten. I wish him well.

I have no proof, but I’m pretty sure that the reason MM couldn’t get another job is nothing to do with racist or politically incorrect texts. Football is a results based business and if a team thought he could get them to the Premier League they’d hire him straight away.

Financial issues maybe? The Cornelius deal always looked a bit strange and not quite right? But it’s all speculation and for some reason or other, despite his success with us, virtually no one wants to touch him until now.

My opinion is that he did a good job for us but the football wasn’t exactly exciting at times. He was out of his depth at Premier League level and was sacked at the right time, although bringing in OGS wasn’t actually an improvement and he may have come closer to keeping us than Ole did.

I don’t wish the man any harm, but in my eyes he is not the hero that many of our fans make him out to be.

Ive said as much in my post, wish him all the best, but not for him coming back here! Getting caught sending racist texts, With a foreign owner, was only ending one way in truth, he shouldnt be vilified forever over it though, time to allow him to move on.

When he was sacked I’m pretty sure VT said something like ‘the reason will come out soon and everyone will realise that we did the right thing’.
