' Pompey Player Ronan Curtis to Cardiff? '

Fri May 21, 2021 11:13 am

Cardiff City are among a number of Championship clubs chasing highly-rated Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis.

The Republic of Ireland international Curtis is high on the list of the Bluebirds' targets.

Friday 21st May 2021

The Bluebirds moved quickly to make their first signing of the summer when on Wednesday they announced the capture of James Collins, who will join on a free transfer following the end of his contract at Luton Town.

There are a number of other positions Mick McCarthy will want to fill quickly as we approach the opening of the summer transfer window and one of those is on the wing.

The Republic of Ireland international Curtis is high on the list of the Bluebirds' targets.

Like Collins, McCarthy has managed Curtis at international level and has previously spoken very highly of the winger's qualities.

Given the exits of Sheyi Ojo and Junior Hoilett, Cardiff are looking to fill a wing berth this summer and the 25-year-old Pompey star is among the list of candidates.

Although Cardiff are not alone, with Blackburn Rovers, Reading and Derby County all having been credited with an interest in recent weeks.

Curtis, who predominantly plays on the left wing, scored 10 goals and provided seven assists for the League One outfit this term as they ultimately failed in their quest for promotion. He has hit double figures for goals for three seasons running.

It is thought Curtis now believes the time is right to make the step up to the Championship, having been such a consistent performer in the tier below for the last three years.

The player also appeared to drop a major hint over his future this week, when he removed the words "footballer for Portsmouth FC" from his social media account. Instead, his Twitter bio now simply reads "Irish international".

Would Ronan Curtis be a good signing? Have your say in the comments section below.

The six-cap Ireland star has two years left to run on his Portsmouth contract so he will not come cheap. When Blackburn registered their interest in January 2020 it was said Portsmouth wanted around £3m. However, reports on the south coast now suggest he could be snapped up for less than half of that.

Just this week, Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley admitted that the club might be forced into selling some of their top assets if the right offer is tabled.

"There are definitely some assets within the group," Cowley told The News. "We wouldn’t want to lose those assets, but, ultimately at this level, everybody has a price.

"We have players who can play in the Championship and, as a consequence, there might be interest from Championship clubs.

"Some players you definitely don’t want to lose and we value them really highly. It would have to be a significant offer for them to be prised away from us.

"But if that offer was met then we have to make intelligent and emotional decisions."

Whether Cardiff would be able to finance a deal given the cost-cutting measures they are hoping to implement this summer remains to be seen.

One thing is for certain, they will have to drum up at least some funds this summer if they are to bolster their squad.

Robert Glatzel has already been placed on the transfer list, while quite what the future holds for Lee Tomlin, Isaac Vassell and Gavin Whyte, who enjoyed promotion with Hull City this season, is uncertain. Cardiff will also question whether there is a need for two goalkeepers of the quality of Dillon Phillips and Alex Smithies.

Furthermore, if big-money offers come in for Kieffer Moore, Josh Murphy or Will Vaulks then they would be hard to turn down in the current financial climate. Although McCarthy is understood to like all three and would preferably like to keep hold of them.

But when it comes to recruitment, McCarthy will be hoping to make the right moves to mould his squad to fit his vision for a promotion push next season and Curtis seems to fit the bill.

The wide man, who moved to the south coast from Derry City in 2018, boasts a total of 40 goals and 31 assists across 142 appearances for Pompey.

We already have an international winger proven to perform at league one level.

I rate him highly.

Whenever I've seen him play on Sky for Portsmouth, he's looked a good player who's capable of the step up.

Would be a good signing.

Sounds like a superior version of Gavin Whyte. Possibly we could do a swap with Portsmouth with Whyte going there and us paying a reduced transfer fee. Whyte did well for Portsmouth in league one and seems to be good at that level.

Curtis sounds good to me and him moving up a level might be what he needs.

People critising this potential signing have a lack of knowledge of the football league. This would be a superb signing and for me statement of intent. If comes off will be excited for new season chances

Agree, the stats say so too. The number of assists with goals are very high. That said, I wouldn't want us paying any more than 3/4 million for him.

40 goals 32 assists in 142 games from a winger those stats are excellent

Reading the Pompey forum they don't seem to bothered about him going as long as they get a decent fee. This could be sour grapes though as his assist and goal record is very good.

One good game in 10, thinks he's better than he is are some of the comments but to balance that a few say they're going to struggle to replace him with his assist and goals record.

Personally I would be happy with this signing. A young player who wants to prove himself in a higher league but I don't think we'll be spending any money until players are sold.

From the clips I've seen he scores all types of goals and has a bit of arrogance about him but in a good way.

Cardiff City transfers: Target's mum drops major exit hint as update emerges over Man City starlet

Cardiff City are set for another busy transfer window and here is a round-up of the latest stories surrounding the Welsh capital city club

Saturday 22nd May 2021

Cardiff City are set for another hectic transfer window.

The Bluebirds have already struck early with the signing of Republic of Ireland international James Collins, while others are expected to follow through the entrance door in the coming months.

There will also be departures, too, with other clubs sure to be taking an interest in some of Cardiff's own players as and when the window opens.

' Pompey star's mum drops exit hint '

The mother of Cardiff City target Ronan Curtis has dropped a major hint over her son's departure from Portsmouth.

Cardiff have identified Curtis as a player of interest following another fruitful season on the south coast, despite missing out on promotion to the Championship.

Curtis, 25, has notched double figure goals tallies for the last three seasons since his move from Derry City and knows Mick McCarthy well from his time playing for the Republic of Ireland.

But with Blackburn Rovers, Derby County, Reading and others thought to be keen, Cardiff have their work cut out if they are to land the player.

However, Curtis' mum, Marie, on Friday posted a message on Twitter which will do little to dissuade Pompey fans that he will leave the club this summer.

"No one is comparing Ronan with (Ivan) Toney, but he has to test himself and needs to grab this offer with both hands," she wrote.

"By releasing him, revenue will bring in four players to Pompey's advantage and I wish PFC all the very best.

"See you in the Championship next season."

In an additional tweet, which has now been deleted, Marie added: "There’s interest for him from Championship clubs so don’t know who’s going take him but I just hope Pompey get the amount they want if not he’ll be here next season."

This comes after the player himself dropped a hint on social media earlier this week, when he removed the words "footballer for Portsmouth FC" from his social media account. Instead, his Twitter bio now simply reads "Irish international".

Liam Delap could stay at Manchester City

Manchester City starlet Liam Delap could opt to stay at the club next season to further his development instead of having a season on loan in the Championship.

Cardiff, West Brom and Middlesbrough were all linked with a loan move for the 18-year-old forward, who has impressed at City's youth levels this season.

However, while it was expected that he would seek regular senior football next season, our sister title MEN claim that, while there is interest in him from the Championship, the club could look to keep him to further his development.

"Where Delap will be playing his football next season is yet to be finalised," they write.

"He could yet stay in Manchester to continue his development - aided by the fact he will now be eligible for Champions League games - but equally the improvements he has made to his game this year make him even more equipped for a loan.

"There are not many players physically ready for the Championship at 18 but the interest in him from the division indicates he is an exceptional talent."

Meanwhile, in his press conference on Friday, Pep Guardiola hinted that one or two youth players could be involved in the first team from next season.

"Maybe," he said when asked if youngsters would be promoted next term.

"I won't say because it doesn't help the young boys to go to the media. Normally this age it can confuse than be positive

"It depends on how many players stay, how many leave, how many we sign. There are two or three who will be regularly training with us and involved with the squad."

Cardiff are already off the mark in their summer transfer dealings, with the free transfer of Luton target man James Collins. They say the early bird catches the worm and that is certainly the case when it comes to free agents, as all the best ones tend to get snapped up as soon as they pack their bags.

It is a transfer that makes a great deal of sense, as long as it is to complement rather than replace Kieffer Moore.

Collins is rough and ready, in the Cardiff mould and has worked with Mick McCarthy before, so knows exactly what to expect. Plenty more are still needed though and while everyone sifts through and feasts on the dozens of Championship free agents flooding the market, there are a few exciting options amongst the British players that are currently plying their trade throughout Europe.

These players should be applauded for their sense of adventure, but for every Jadon Sancho and Kieran Trippier, there are plenty of British players that have chanced their arm by trying their luck overseas, only to find that things didn’t quite go according to plan.

The off the field issue seems to be the reason some think he isn't that good. How can you be good in 1 in 10 when you score and assist like that. Fingers crossed he is coming wil be our asset

He'd blossom or fold under Mick McCarthy and I believe he'd get a decent tune out of him...

Worth a punt at the money suggested :ayatollah:

Does he look as if he has a bit of pace? That’s what we’re lacking atm I believe.
