‘ Cardiff City to offload Lee Tomlin ‘

Apparently Mick McCarthy has given up on Lee Tomlin getting fit after months of waiting and hoping.

Tomlin with only one start this season for the first team and failing to even play regularly even for the U23’s and a history of all this happening with his previous 5 clubs, it’s being reported that Mick McCarthy wants Tomlin gone, but due to Tomlins incredible high wages we will at best be able to send him out on loan next season with the other club paying 50% of Tomlins wages.

Six weeks ago Mick McCarthy stated: “Tomlin is No where near the fitness I expect from my players.”

McCarthy sees Jonny Williams with one start this season and Rubin Colwill with two starts this season ahead of Tomlin next season and that for me says a lot.

Lee Tomlin has recently deleted his Twitter account.

Tomlin has the skill and qualities to have been a top Championship player but has never been able to be consistent at any club he has played for and at 32 years old it looks like his chances are virtually over.

Tomlin with only 50 odd appearances ( many as sub ) in nearly 4 years for Cardiff City has no where near played enough games to warrant a wage which has been reported at £28,000 a week.

Tomlin has been embarrassing to professional footballers on how he has kept his fitness levels from his young to older career, what a waste of such a great talent.

I would have been surprised if we saw Tomlin again this season after his appearance in the U23.

Looks like MM is not going to give him the chance to get fit over the summer. Obviously no faith in him doing that.

Ian,
He has been hugging and puffing and when he actually could be bothered to turn up was over weight time and time again a disgrace.

You can only give players so many chances and I am hearing he is not a good influence as well.

Problem is that it has always been if's and but's with Tomlin...

I have supported him as far as I can and (as I stated elsewhere) partly blame Neil Warnock for the current position; but the situation is nothing of not repetitive and sadly an exit is the 'safe' option, if on nothing but financial grounds

A certain ITK on here has stated that Sunderland have declared an interest, so I guess time will tell...

im as frustrated as you...and tbh this shouldnt even be a topic as that extension should have been 1 year not 2.... but it is what it is and he is our player.. if fit he gets in this team comfortably , and next year a much better replacement for HW than Jonny will ever be..... if he makes no effort to get fit a loan isnt going to happen, certainly not one that includes a club paying upwards of 10k a week when money is so tight....

I agree Tomlin is way way better than nearly any of our players in his day, but NO point having him if he has the wrong attitude and never fit to play, personally I would like him gone forever from our club, he has lost all my respect and I have read time and time again at every club he has been at he is going to change and after a few games, he is back to bad boy Tomlin.

Tomlin will never change and will always let us down in the end.

One of the most talented players we've had for years, I truly believe he could have got to Harry Wilsons standards if he had the professional desire to fully apply himself. Still he hasn't and never will so give him away if we have to he's become a distraction and waste of money, we need a rebuild and he shouldn't be part of it!

so...on one hand NW should have done more due diligence but the fella he bought him off is now wanting to re sign a fatter, less fit older version who hasnt kicked a ball for the best part of a year on loan ?

well if there was ever a time for him to be motivated this has to be it... im not supporting LT just saying it as it is....
he has 2 choices sit on the huge wage for a year and end up retiring or playing for peanuts in 22/23... or put the effort in to extend his career whether here or on loan elsewhere... if its going to be the later id prefer him here than doing it for someone else while we pay the majority of his wages.... if its the former we are screwed with just paying him...

Bit of an assumption there but the broad answer to your post is yes, Lee Johnson wold like him back. He did okay for him before (once why we paid what we did) and he feels he could get a tune out of him again; and a 'loan' would be perfect, if he had a 'get rid' clause at Christmas like Sheffield Wednesday did with Flint

The issue for me, is where Sunderland will be plying their trade next season (Championship or Leaguee One) and/or whether they can afford or will pay his wages even at half the cost of what he is on here...

Our lawyers should be looking closely at the contract to see if the player may be in breach of it. If so we should sue as the player does not seem to have made much effort to get himself in a position to play?

Totally agree. Tomlin appears to be in a clear breach of contract and as such under both employment and contract law could be dismissed. In any other walk of life this would happen. Why doesn't it appear to apply to football?

As he is such a lardy lazy @rse, surely he'd want to slim down a fair bit...not for his professional attitude but to shoe horn himself into his Lamborghini?

I mean he's gonna rock up in a supercar and then disappoint the ladies when he disembarks

Who will take him on loan and pay £7k a week?
I reckon it would be nearer £10k as he extended his deal in a purple patch under Harris .
We are stuck with him next season.

If he is fit enough to play, he should be involved in our match day squad, at least. If he's not fit, who is going to loan an unfit player?

For me, he is either fit and playing for us, or he's not fit and not playing at all. I will be pretty pissed if we send out a fit Tomlin and opt to keep/play Williams. Both injury prone, Williams more so, but Tomlin is a game changer and Williams is from it. 10mins to go an 1 goal down i know who id rather bring on. A semi-fit Tomlin everytime.

I’m surprised annual fitness tests aren’t introduced into football. With work, if I fail my fitness test, remedial fitness sessions are compulsory (unless injured and have a note from Doctor) and if I fail after several attempts, I’m unemployed. I’ve always thought this was fair enough as I’m getting a competitive wage and fitness is required for the job. The key is in the job role, “professional footballer.” A lack of ability is forgivable, but I find it hard to relate to players on inflated wages, who put in minimum effort. Tomlin is in that category.
