Big Mick on Mark Harris: ‘When he’s come on, he’s looked lively. It’s vital that when you get your chance, you take it. We’re currently discussing a new contract. He’s got a year’s option, so he’ll be here next year. If he doesn’t play in the first-team, we can loan him out.’

Mark Harris scored on Saturday away to Brum in the Championship :thumbright: :bluebird: ( Brum did start with Six Academy players ) on so many occasions Harris has shown that he can play well for the first team, BUT four different City managers have each given Harris a chance and then hardly played him.

Mark Harris is the only proper City Academy player (Harris joined the Bluebirds during the Hammam years in 2006) to actually start and play a number of games for the first team in Cardiff's last 11 years until Rubin Colwill made his debut two weeks ago and has now played two first team games. :thumbright: :bluebird:

With Davies, Evans, Bagan & Bowen now all hopefully following, the future hopefully could finally be good for our local players :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Mark Harris signed a professional contract for Cardiff City in December 2016 and He made his first-team debut on 8 January 2017 :thumbright: :thumbright:

In three and half years Harris has played 17 games & scored 3 goals for the Bluebirds.

Mark Harris is 23 years old this year, can he finally make it and be part of Mick McCarthy's first team next season?

Is Harris good enough, striker, winger etc?

I don't think MM rates Harris or Watters and it wouldn't surprise me to see them both go.

He has got plenty of skill and works hard but strikes me as a player who is not really excellent in any one position. As has been said he is not quick enough to be a winger and not big enough to be a centre forward. He also strikes me as someone who would not be successful as someone playing alongside a big centre forward. It's not that he doesn't take his chances well when he gets them he does it's more he doesn't seem to have that natural ability to get himself into positions where he can score like a say Chorpa or McCormack

When he was with Wrexham he scored three goals in his first four games and none at all in his next twenty for them and they sent him back to us. My guess is he will never be a free scoring striker for us. Wonder if he could be converted to a attacking midfielder as there is lots of ability there.

He has bags of ability that we seen and he has potential we have yet to see so if he gets given the chance next season then i feel he will continue to improve on a game by game basis and shine in the 1st team throughout the season. Im a huge fan of his and it was a shame he was never used in the 1st team in recent seasons. Im looking foreward to seeing him play inside a Stadium next season. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

If you are not bouncing around the first team and starting at least half the games by 21 you are at the wrong level.

Wilson, Ojo & Tutu are not champions league level they should leave for first-team football and a chance to start climbing the professional ladder, but when the U23 contract may be better than the one you'll receive from your new (level) club and can see why players wait.

Harris took his goal very well. I don't know what he is. He may be an attacking midfielder or even a wingback. He works hard, has a turn of pace, and good technique. I would rather him as a wingback than Brown or even NG.

I think Harris has had his make or break season. As has been said, if he is not playing regularly at his age, and three managers have had the opportunity to play him, he is not at a standard we need.

After he scored his first against Barnsley this year, he should have kicked on and tried to claim the jersey.

Three managers, all experienced, can't be wrong.

Add to this of course, is that his loan spells at Lower and non league didn't go swimmingly either.

Forgetting the emotional attachment borne from the fact he’s “one of our own,” I’d get rid and wish him all the best for future endeavours. If MM signed a 23 year old with his ability, based on what I’ve seen so far, I’d be extremely disappointed.

Yep, I think that's the key. He's OK but is he good enough for the Championship ? From what I've seen he's not quick enough or strong enough.

I hope I'm wrong and he's a late developer but I don't think so. Could do well at Div 1/2 though.

It's hard to judge at the moment as we have so little creative play from midfield. Hopefully that will be addressed which could change the picture dramatically, but if not then he may have a mountain to climb!

It's a difficult one with Mark Harris because as already said he doesn't get a lot of game time but if you look at his stats he has an average of 207 minutes on the pitch per goal this season, only 1 player is better Keiffer Moore with 170 minutes per goal.

At the start of this season many of us thought there was something about Tom Sang but managers didn't give him a chance, he was even sent out on loan and that didn't go well. But MM gave him his chance and he looks a player and has earned a new contract.

In times when money is short a home grown like Mark Harris represents good value for money even as a squad player. You could probably get 5 Mark Harris for one Lee Tomlin. Worth taking a chance I think.

Apparently there’s a16 year old Cian Ashford in the Academy that’s turning heads.

To be fair to Harris he has never been given a proper run out for the first team say starting three or four games in succession. He usually comes on as a late substitute. Next season should be his make or break season but we really need to lay him from the start for a few games. If he doesn't turn out to be good enough then loan him out.
