The teenager is the son of former EFL star Rory Delap, and has been tipped for a big future

Cardiff City are reportedly among several clubs weighing up a loan move for highly-rated teenage forward Liam Delap.

Son of Stoke City and Derby County favourite Rory, Delap has been heavily tipped for a bright future in the game after making his first team breakthrough at the Etihad earlier in the season.

He currently has 20 goals to his name in 18 Premier League 2 appearances this term, and his progress has caught the eye of boss Pep Guardiola, as well as several other potential suitors.

According to TeamTalk, Cardiff are one of several clubs believed to be taking a look at the 18-year old, with Mick McCarthy keen on strengthening his attacking options this summer after the Bluebirds' failure to make the Championship's top six.

However, Cardiff aren't the only ones seemingly monitoring the centre-forward's progress.

Derby County, the club Delap left for Man City in 2019, are also believed to be pondering a move, while Stoke, Middlesbrough and soon-to-be-relegated West Bromwich Albion have also been mentioned as possible destinations.

However, there is a potential catch in that the Premier League giants have reportedly not yet decided whether they are willing to loan the forward out this summer, with Delap reportedly set to be given a chance to prove his first team credentials over the pre-season period.

While he wasn't named in the squad for Sunday's EFL Cup final at Wembley, Delap was on hand to offer an insight into the celebrations in the Man City dressing room at full-time, after Aymeric Laporte's late strike sealed victory.

Delap himself contributed to City's march to Wembley, netting in their first game against Bournemouth earlier in the competition, and made his Premier League debut just a few days later.

He has already found himself on the end of rich praise from Guardiola, and it remains to be seen what the Premier League champions elect decide this summer.

Speaking after Delap's goal against the Cherries, the City boss said: “He’s a different striker to what we have in terms of physicality.

“We see in training how good a finisher he is.

“Now he has to be calm and keep working. We are delighted with his performance – he played really well.”
