When were City last not involved in a promotion/relegation scenario coming into the final few matches?

Good question. Must be four years ago.

Play-offs last season, relegation the year before, promotion the year before.

2017 we finished in mid table.

I think it was Warnock's first half season after Trollope :thumbright:

Brentford have won 1-0 at Bournemouth, despite Pontus Jansson being sent off for them early in the second half.

That means they are guaranteed to be in the play-offs at least.

Bournemouth are almost certainly going to join them because of their goal difference. That will be confirmed unless Reading win tomorrow.

Wycombe and Sheffield Wednesday could have been relegated today but that has not happened.

They both live to fight another day as Derby lost.

Although it will be very tough for Wycombe due to their poor goal difference.

Wonder if Watford’s manager will last into 2022?

He'll probably be lucky if they don't sack him before next season.

That's what they did with Jokanovic when he got them promoted two years ago.

1st time in 10yrs that two relegated clubs have gone back up in 1st 2nd places! Shows how hard it is to go straight back up...
By coincidence both times clubs basically kept the same squad something we failed to do twice!

Two more games today and the play-offs can be confirmed for three clubs. Brentford are already guaranteed a play-off place.

In simple terms:

If it's a draw between Reading and Swansea OR if Swansea win - Barnsley, Bournemouth and Swansea will all be in the play-offs.

If the result is a Reading win - all three of them will have to wait to confirm their play-off place.

Has to be said, will take a lot for any of them to miss out now.

Lot of external reasons for that. Basically short pre season and lack of money meant most clubs went into new season with very similar squads to those that ended the last. It really helped Norwich and Watford and to a lesser extent Bournemouth as they changed their manager.

TOP 6 NOW SEALED FOR 2020/21

Sun Apr 25, 2021 1:34 pm

Despite a late comeback to deny Welsh Wycombe the three points, today's draw meant that the Championship Top 6 is now sealed with the only remaining issues being which order the play-offs are in

Norwich are already up and just short of being crowned Champions with Watford the team joining them in the automatic positions

The battle for the four play-off places is way too tight to call with a difference of just one point between all four clubs involved, Bournemouth, Brentford, Reading and Swansea

Congratulations to all who made it this far; they deserved it over the regular season and now the rest is a bit of a lottery

I will watch avidly, with a little trepidation but have no preference who goes up, so long as it is any one of three teams not currently located in Wales... ;) :laughing6: :ayatollah:

Love that if so. I think Annis did it the other day mixing up Wigan and Wycombe.

No, I am aware of the Welsh Wigan thing; but I made a remark on another thread which measured Swansea and Wycombe as 'clubs who had overachieved for their small town stature' and I also mentioned Burnley

Sorry, if you missed it... :ayatollah:

Don’t apologise. Having watched the league one play off final last year when Wycombe won 2-1 with 23% of possession and one shot on target. (They scored with a penalty and own goal). I remarked at the time they were very similar to us. Oxford completely outplayed them yet lost the game.
