PUNDIT MAKES CARDIFF CITY TRANSFER PREDICTION INVOLVING LIVERPOOL MAN

Harry Wilson is contracted to Liverpool until summer 2023 but could be allowed to leave for just £10m in this summer’s transfer window.

Friday 26th March 2021,

By Chris Gallagher

Kevin Phillips has urged Harry Wilson to leave Liverpool permanently in the summer and suggested Cardiff City would love to bring him back for next season.

This is Harry Wilsons 5th time Liverpool have loaned him out.

The Welsh international, who finished off a fine move for his country in their defeat at Belgium last night, joined the Bluebirds earlier in the campaign and it was seen as a real coup for the Championship side.

And, he has shown why, contributing four goals and nine assists to help Cardiff into contention for a play-off spot.

Wilson is due to return to Anfield in the summer though, and you would expect he would struggle for minutes, so another move seems inevitable.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips explained why it’s vital the 24-year-old is playing regularly and he thinks Mick McCarthy would love to have Wilson back again next season.

“His career would start to go backwards if he went back to Liverpool in the summer. He is excelling playing football week in, week out at the moment so I think he would want to leave in the summer.

“Cardiff have every opportunity of coming up to the Premier League the way they are going. If I am Mick, I would look to sign him permanently and have him playing week in, week out.”

' The verdict '

There wouldn’t be many who disagree with Phillips when he says that Wilson needs to be playing, and it’s clearly not going to happen at Liverpool.

So, a summer move does seem inevitable. If Cardiff go up, they have every chance of bringing the winger back, but it could be difficult if they remain in the Championship.

Ultimately, this is something that will be discussed in the summer, with the only focus for Wilson and Cardiff right now on trying to win promotion.

Phillips: Wilson has played his last game for Liverpool despite ‘amazing’ form

Friday 26th March 2021

Harry Wilson has played his last game for Liverpool and could complete a permanent move to Cardiff City this summer.

That is the view of former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old’s future on Merseyside.

Wilson scored a wonderful team goal against Belgium on Wednesday night while on international duty for Wales.

The attacking midfielder, on a season-long loan at Cardiff City, has also enjoyed a fine campaign so far in the Championship.

His 30 league appearances for Mick McCarthy’s side have yielded four goals and 10 assists.

Phillips believes McCarthy will bid to sign Wilson permanently if Cardiff can achieve promotion via the Play-Offs.

“I don’t think Wilson has a future at Liverpool,” he told Football Insider. “I cannot see him playing for them again if I am being honest.

“It was a magnificent finish last night and what about the move as well, amazing.

“Cardiff have every opportunity of coming up to the Premier League the way they are going. If I am Mick, I would look to sign him permanently and have him playing week in, week out.

“His career would start to go backwards if he went back to Liverpool in the summer. He is excelling playing football week in, week out at the moment so I think he would want to leave in the summer.”

Wilson has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Anfield.

He has made just two senior appearances for the Reds, both in domestic cup competitions.

Personally I’d love this to happen. I think he’s been under appreciated by many but his work rate and assists have been key to how McCarthy wants us to play.

Unlike a lot of loans he’s really put a shift in.

However, unless we get promoted we simply can’t afford him nor could we attract him.

' £10Million for Harry Wilson? after 5th loan out '

Harry Wilson has played his last game for Liverpool and will be sold by the Reds this summer.

The 24-year-old is currently on a season-long loan deal with Cardiff in the Championship. After a slow start, he seems to have his feet in his native Wales. However, his chances of carving out a career at Anfield appear bleak.

Indeed, this is Wilson’s fifth loan stint away from Merseyside. He spent successful spells with Bournemouth and Derby prior to this season.

Wilson reminded Liverpool of his talents with a fine strike for Wales against Belgium on Wednesday night.

However, having only made one senior appearance for Liverpool.

Indeed, Phillips says Wilson – who has four goals and 10 assists for the Bluesbirds – could join them permanently.

Not quite the full product as we need someone like Whittingham who can control the game.

I agree.

I said the same a while back but many on here shot me down, because it's illegal to criticise Welsh players who play for us.

He's not worth £10m.

He's worth £10mill in the right team. Easy. His scoring and assists record shows that. A lot of our play takes him out of the game and Harris used him poorly. He's still been involved in 14 goals this season and is joint 5th for most assists in the league.

So I'm guessing you think Ojo is also worth close to £10m as he's had just two fewer goal involvements this season?

Ojo has started less matches than Wilson as well, and they are similar ages with Ojo being a few months younger.

This is ojo's best season in his career. Wilson has shown he is more than capable in the championship and can also do a job in the prem. So no, I don't think is worth 10mill.

Wilson scored seven goals last season in the Premier League. None of which came after the 24th match week. They ended up getting relegated. This proves that when the going gets tough, he goes missing.

He had a very good season with Derby the season before, but that was two years ago now.

Take your point about Ojo having his best season. But you're only as good as your last season and the past is irrelevant really.

In my view, Ojo has proved he's just as good as Wilson this season and, unlike Wilson, played well when we were struggling as a team.

Previous seasons show how good a player is. How are they irrelevant? Wilson has had a much better career than ojo, hence why he is worth more. 7 goals for a midfielder in a relegated team is pretty good going. Our top scorer had 5 goals in our last season in the prem-cam and reid. We sold reid for 11mill to a championship team.

Wilson hasn't had a great season, I agree. I dont think we play to his strengths. But he still has 14 goal involvements. 2nd highest this season after Moore. Surely that shows his worth if you think he's been poor but still contributed to so many goals?

I’m amazed people can’t see the quality Wilson adds

Work rate, pressing, assists, goals all in a team that plays direct football.

If we have ambitions of getting promoted and staying there Wilson is exactly the type of player you spend £10m+ on.

He’s worth 10 million but that’s because of the craziness of the transfer market. He hasn’t been as good as he was for Derby goals wise but has 10 assists.

You can’t compare him to Whittingham because he’s playing in a totally different team set up. Crikey, Joe Ledley scored 20 one season under Dave Jones. I know you didn’t compare him to Whitts.

Whittingham wouldn’t control games under Harris or McCarthy. In fact he probably wouldn’t play as pressing is not something he did. Look at Whitts under Malky which is much closer to Harris/McCarthy than DJ. Mostly set piece goals.

Even Bellamy was different under Dave Jones to Malky.

the transfer market is where it is . and has always been viewed as crazy .new cars are not 900 quid any more and a pint costs more than 10p.. i agree with others ,if we are serious he is the sort of player we should be signing....

If Reid is worth £11 million.
If Cornelius is worth £10 million.
If Madine is worth £5 million.
If Le fondre is worth £3 million.

Wilson is worth £10 million.

Very much so.

The fact that we are in the discussion for him is crazy.

Yes we are a little biased because he is Welsh but isn’t that what we want? Welsh players.

Only worth having him if he plays in a role/position to get the best out of him plus he needs far better players alongside him than City have.

Oh and his wages will be way higher than City’s championship structure
