England v San Marino

Wed Mar 24, 2021 6:10 pm

What’s the point?

Complete waste of time.

If I was England I wouldn’t pick a keeper.

2 defenders 2 midfielders 4 wingers and the rest strikers

Agree.

It's the one part of the Nations League that made sense, in that countries play other nations that are at a similar level to them.

Some of the fixtures in the next week will be ridiculously one sided and not entertaining at all.

England v San Marino

Luxembourg v Portugal

Poland v Andorra

Croatia v Malta

mate.. the point is....
they played them in the 90s and its still and probably always will be my favourite England moment.......
England needed to win by 7...and after weeks of listening to how it could be done with their super duper strikers . San Marino went 1-0 up after like 5 seconds...  Engerland did win 1-7 but were out.....

They had to win by 7 and other results go for them that didn’t.

Although would be funny if the goal had eliminated them.

Agreed. Stuart Pearce set them up lovely.

Poland had to beat the Netherlands and England had to win by 7.

The Dutch beat Poland 3-1 quite comfortable so even if England scored 25 they still would have not qualified.

Actually it was 9 seconds when San Marino scored.

A waste of time in what sense? Are you saying that San Marino shouldn't have a team or that England should just be given the win, if so by what score?

6.3 seconds according to FIFA, held the record for fastest world cup goal scored for quite a while.

They shouldn’t be playing San Marino. Or if they do play the formation as above.

Don’t need a keeper.

There should be a level called association of something where the bottom countries have to qualify.

Not sure if the no keeper is actually allowed?

You mean like the association of Wales? I'm sure there is but this is the world cup and shouldn't be an elitist competition like you're suggesting. Maybe we should do the same with the Olympics and other competitions that are inclusive of every country.

We could even have someone like you deciding who is worthy & who isn't based on your mood at the time of your choice.

ive always thought that there should be a 2nd tier for the euros like the europa lge is in club football... will never happen because the dosh gremlins at UEFA HQ dont care about anything other than TV rights and advertising..

I see they won 5-0. All the below stats in England's favour.

31 shots and 15 on target to 1 shot and 0 on target.

81% possession.

Completely ridiculous and I agree with the above that countries like San Marino should be made to qualify for the qualifiers.

There's literally no point in games like this.

I think they've got Andorra in their group as well and San Marino will probably get thrashed by even them.

I get your reasoning but the thing is there's not really enough teams to do that. 14 teams out of 53 qualify so if you eliminate too many from the qualifiers you'll end up with half the teams qualifying anyways. San Marino are very much the outlier as probably the worst team in the world so any qualifiers for the qualifiers they'd lose anyways

Nope not me but using the rankings.

13 teams qualify for the World Cup 24 for the European champs.

With less teams it would mean less games and less pointless friendlies.

Two tiers. Say there are 54 teams.

Have 10 groups of 4 teams. Play each other home and away.

The remaining 14 ‘association’ teams play each other and the bottom performing teams in the main tier play the top performing teams.

Link it to the Nations Cup even which I think has been brilliant.

Or keep wasting time with England v San Marino. If I’m a premier league manager I’m asking Southgate not to pick my players flr that game.

its 13 out off 55 , and you could easily have the countries ranked 26 to 55 play a knock out round with the 15 winners joining the countries ranked 1 to 25 to make 10 groups of 4 teams...would mean 6 rounds of games instead of it being as many as 10 rounds as it is now which would do away with the insane friendlies teams in groups of 5 have to play ... its not as if its not done in other competitions ..the fa cup starts months and months before we enter it and African qualification has preliminary rounds.
