For me only Neil Etheridge / Callum Paterson / Gavin Whyte / Cunningham / Mendez-Laing have continued to do well since they left the Bluebirds and Gavin Whyte returns this June to the Bluebirds.
Joe Day has found his right league with Bristol Rovers making 17 appearances.
The Rest a BIG Goodbye
Here is a rundown of how they are faring at their new clubs.
' Neil Etheridge '
The stopper left the Welsh capital last summer for Birmingham City. Speculation had engulfed Etheridge for months, Etheridge had wanted to stay on at the Bluebirds , but with Aston Villa and West Ham said to have been keen on him, and amid the speculation he lost his place in the team to Alex Smithies.
He joined the Blues on a four-year deal. He has played 35 games this term, with the Midlands outfit hovering dangerously above the relegation zone, having parted company with Aitor Karanka over the weekend.
' Callum Paterson '
Fan favourite Paterson’s departure prompted much head scratching from City supporters last summer. His versatility gave them something extra. He joined Sheffield Wednesday and has been a firm fixture in the Owls team. Paterson is a regular first team player and fans favourite at Hillsborough.
Like Birmingham though, the Hillsborough side have struggled in the Championship and look destined for relegation.
' Omar Bogle '
After various loan stints away from Cardiff City Stadium, striker Bogle eventually penned a permanent deal with Charlton last October. But after just half a season at The Valley, he is now at Doncaster Rovers on an 18-month loan contract. He has scored two goals in seven games for the League One side.
' Danny Ward '
After 60 appearances for the Bluebirds, Ward left south Wales last summer in order to find guaranteed first-team minutes. He rejoined Huddersfield Town - a side where he had spent two stints previously - but as at Cardiff, injuries have hampered his progress at The John Smith’s Stadium. He has been limited to just 11 appearances all season, and hasn’t featured at all since January.
' Gavin Whyte '
Still a Bluebird / out on loan.
The Northern Ireland international left the Welsh capital after being moved to the fringes by Neil Harris. He had been a mainstay under previous boss Neil Warnock, but with game-time limited, the winger left on loan for Hull City in January. He has done very well at the KCOM, recently netting a brace against Bristol Rovers. With competition on the flanks stiff at Cardiff, a permanent move away cannot be ruled out. Hull City top of League 1 are interested in signing Whyte on a permanent move.
Another year left with the Bluebirds.
' Greg Cunningham '
The left-back joined Preston initially on loan in January. But with his Cardiff contract up at the end of the season, his transfer was made permanent just a few weeks later. Ironically, having struggled to force his way into Cardiff’s first XI, the Bluebirds are now facing a bit of a crisis at left-back, with Joe Bennett and Joel Bagan both out of action. Has turned out seven times for the Lilywhites since moving back north, only missing one game.
' Joe Day '
The 30-year-old stopper moved to Bristol Rovers on loan in January, with Smithies and Dillon Phillips blocking his route to the first team with the Bluebirds. Has featured 17 times in all competitions for the Gas.
Contract with the Bluebirds finishes this June.
' Robert Glatzel '
Mick McCarthy made it quite clear that Glatzel was unlikely to feature in his plans for the second half of the season, and the 27-year-old was swiftly loaned to Bundesliga side Mainz until the end of the campaign. Back in Germany he has featured in six games for the top-flight outfit, scoring once. Cardiff will hope he has a strong finish to the season, with McCarthy keen to boost his striking options next term - possibly using any transfer fee earned for Glatzel in his spending kitty.
' Jazz Richards '
The Wales defender was released by the Bluebirds last summer, and despite being linked with EFL sides, he has just signed for Haverfordwest County, making his debut last week. He played his part in a huge 2-1 win over The New Saints on Saturday.
' Matthew Connolly '
Thirty-three-year-old defender Connolly was released by the Bluebirds last summer and it is believed that he remains unattached.
' Nathaniel Mendez-Laing '
The winger left Cardiff in much-publicised circumstances when the Bluebirds terminated his contract with immediate effect last year. He has since linked up with Warnock at Middlesbrough, with the 28-year-old scoring his first goal for the Teessiders in their 3-0 win over Stoke City at the weekend, looks set to be a first team regular for Boro.
' Filip Benkovic '
Endured a nightmare stay in south Wales, featuring for just 70 minutes under Harris in defeat at Wycombe - a loss which the manager pointed the finger at the on-loan centre-back. His loan was terminated early, and he headed to the Foxes’ sister club in Belgium. His luck hasn’t changed though, and the Croat is yet to feature for OH Leuven.
