MY VIEW: WATFORD WERE QUALITY & CARDIFF OVER ALL WERE THE 2N

Sat Mar 13, 2021 4:58 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

WATFORD WERE QUALITY & CARDIFF OVER ALL WERE THE 2ND BEST TEAM.

Was it points lost??

Watford were quality.

You cant win them all, we need investment next season :bluebird: :bluebird:

The final quality is missing and we need to invest, MICK’s TROJANS GIVE THEIR ALL ONCE ONCE AGAIN :thumbright: :bluebird:

Mick took us so far, but never had the quality in depth.

Watford had by far in my opinion a better team.

Big Mick was awarded Championship manager of the month for February.

11 games undefeated and lost the 12rth.

First-half: What an exciting half, Watford, full of of quality / skill and City held their own, end to end a fair 1-1.

Second-half: Even stevens.

CARDIFF CITY 1 WATFORD 2
H-T 1-1

Cardiff City: Phillips; Morrison, Flint, Nelson; Ng, Vaulks, Ralls, Brown; Wilson; Murphy, Moore.

Subs: Smithies, Sang, Bacuna, Pack, Williams, Hoilett, Ojo, Watters, Harris.

The game was fast and end to end.

13mins: Own goal! Cardiff lead!

Well, Murphy atoned for his error there! He sends in a wicked low cross from the far side and if Sierralta doesn't intervene it is a tap-in for Kieffer Moore at the back post, but he slides in and taps it into his own net. 1-0 :bluebird: :bluebird:

15mins: To be fair what a pure bit of brilliance by Jinking.

Watford hit back!

The Watford skipper was found on the edge of the box before jinking inside and out, evading Perry Ng's challenge before sending a lovely effort into the bottom corner.

All square. 1-1

Watford, we good and i mean good, their skill and quality shone.

33mins: Sarr smashed one across goal and it looked to be heading into the bottom corner after a deflection from Brown, but Phillips did tremendously to tip it around the post! :bluebird:

40 mins: In my opinion it should of been RED.
Brown hoofed up up the pitch and there was a massive mix up between the defenders and the keeper. Bachman took it out and Moore dispossesses him before the keeper makes a horror challenge to bring him down.

Cardiff screamed for a red but it was only a yellow!

A good first half by both teams.

H-T 1-1

Not as exciting, both team settled.

72nd min:Wilson, Nelson and Murphy off.

Bacuna, Sang and Ojo on.

Watford over all the better team, but Cardiff fought hard :bluebird:

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-2 Watford (Masina 90+4)

Goal. Masina scores from the free-kick.

Poor keeping, it appears, it's gone right through Phillips.

UP NEXT STOKE CITY HOME 16TH MARCH THIS TUESDAY NIGHT 7PM :thumbright: :bluebird:

Always gutting to lose in the last few minutes but I thought we played well today against a team going up, They are far more deserving of automatic promotion than the jacks. I think that's it for play offs now. Barnsley are running away with it. I am not too down about it though. I hope we keep plugging away and we just must not lose next weekend now.
Smithies can have his jersey back too.

We have been off the boil last couple of games. I would have been happy with the draw but what a cruel way to lose it.

Now the lose it out of the way let's bounce back against the Jacks.

A very late winner for Watford but they probably deserved it.

They just had better quality than us, no shame in that.

Mick has said all along that when we lose, it's all about how we bounce back and now we'll see how the players respond on Tuesday.

We were never going to go unbeaten until the end of the season so I won't be overreacting tonight.

Top six looks difficult now, as we're seven points off. Still ten games to go, but I think it might be a lot to make up. Hope I'm wrong.

We move on to Tuesday and hopefully we can put this result behind us :thumbright: :bluebird:

Tried hard but thought we lacked continuity in our play lots of aimless balls and bad decision making when had the ball but go again Tues after that things could look better noe 7 points off 5/6 place. :bluescarf:

It was always about survival for me when Mad Mick came in,we have achieved that so well done to him.
Let's see what he can achieve with a transfer window and the fact he knows the players now for next season.
Well done Mick, brilliant start to your Blooooobirds management.

2nd best all day long but I wasn't expecting anything today if I'm honest a point would have been a bonus. We go again tuesday although I can see smithies back in goal after that howler of a flop left and concert waving by Phillips which was bizarre :bluescarf:

7 wins I believe we will need now to reach the play offs.

Ralls and Vaulks is just not a midfield that works - far too similar, both able to break up play but neither able to create anything.

No coincidence that we have bed far less fluid with them both in the team - pre and post Ralls injury.

Has to get Pack back in Tuesday and get back to playing through the midfield a bit more.

Had to lose sometime.. looking forward to next season now tho. Bit harsh on Phillips, he’s been tremendous of late..

Yes, better team won, but still disappointed to lose it like that so close to the end. I agree with the comment that Vaulks and Ralls are too similar, and I think that Williams should be given a chance to see what he can do, alongside Vaulks.

Agree. Ralls has been miles off it since he's come back. Pack isn't great either to be honest but Centre Mid is definitely a concern for us. I like Vaulks even if he's having a bad game he makes his presence felt, is it time to bring Tomlin back into the fold?

Thought Brown was decent, Flint got my man of the match no nonsense and dealt with most almost everything the threw at us.

I don't think Watford were that great to be honest their 2 goals were easily avoidable and I actually thought we looked more likely to nick it especially from set pieces.

Hard one to take late on but on a slight positive it takes Watford back above that lot so softens the blow slightly for me.

Looking at Barnsley's fixtures it's going to be hard to catch them now but I feel Reading are there for the taking. Can't afford to fall any further behind though.

Re: MY VIEW: WATFORD WERE QUALITY & CARDIFF OVER ALL WERE TH

Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:34 pm

While it will be a difficult ask, we still have to play Reading and they should be the team we are looking to catch. A win on Tuesday and anything against the Jacks will see us still in the mix. Can't be too downhearted though if we don't make it after the garbage we were being served up a couple of months ago; our squad is a bit thin on quality and there is a lot of inexperience on the bench. Give them game time and start to think about next season now we are safe :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Watford look are very good team and one that looks on the way back to the PL it shows what can happen when the owners don't shit the bed following relegation.

But I thought we made it very difficult for them and our players worked their socks off to stay in the game. We lost out on a deserved point today by a howler of a mistake. Football can be cruel.

This is our hardest 7 days left in our season in my opinion get anything out of Stoke and the Jacks and we still have everything to play for.

Hope Nelson isn't too serious

Gutted today. When a team scores in the last minute I cannot say they deserved to win. A nice Rioja tonight to forget.

1st loss in 12, grab that any day, city fans are disappointed, we all want to win, I would rather be a strong Championship side than to be in a relegation battle, give MM& TC your full support, lets build a strong team, success will come be patient. :bluebird: :occasion5:

Watford - quality??
Not really. Fortunate to squeak a late win when a draw was the fair outcome.
City didn’t do enough to win - unsurprising with such a negative uncreative technically deficient midfield pairing of Ralls and Vaulks.
If City are going to play 3 at the back then they need better central midfield players than those 2.
City MUST get in some quality in central midfield in the pre season to compete properly.
Again Wilson was wasted. I’m sure he can’t wait to play with a team with players who can pass and create room for him.
City were slightly better than the pathetic performances at Boro and particularly Huddersfield and showed that the cautious approach from the manager will see us finish well out of the play offs.
That wouldn’t be a disaster as we would be humiliated in the PL, even with a few new players.
Until City start playing a positive passing and move style at pace rather than cede possession and waste it when they have it and rely on long throws and corners then the club will just stand still and flirt with the top half of this division.

Agree.

We've done brilliantly since Mick arrived but we're still quite a way off a realistic promotion challenge at the moment.

Always struggle with Vaulks and Ralls you can play one but not both. Ralls doesn’t offer anything for me where as Vaulks does when on his game. Next season getting a creative midfielder like Mowatt at Barnsley has to be priority.

I believe Vaulks and Ralls are are best sitters but Joe hasn't really been on it this year .

Our creative midfielder in this system is Harry but he had the same game as Josh did last Friday when nothing he tried came off, surprisingly few comments on how poor is was.

We looked far better with NG back as he can play and tucks in so adds another midfielder in there. We are desperately missing a genuine left midfielder to play left wingback. I guess from juniors absence he isn't here next season as i thought he'd be worth a shout. Cierron Brown is a centre half and he looked very promising there.

Special mention to Jonny Williams, why did we loan him ? Harry wasn't playing very well and we needed to keep the ball. That's his game and he is a free kick magnet.

Watfords recruitment system is everything that is wrong with the game. They have better players and so much depth, I so hope they don't go up.

I honestly wouldn't care if we lost every game we have left now as long as we beat those cheating knobs down the road, can't have them being the team that does the first derby double in a season, play offs look beyond us, but giving the horrendous start to the season we had, it was going to take a hell of an effort to end up there, MM has done a cracking job and I just want next season to come now, put this one behind us, best end would be the swans miss out on top two and then lose in the play off final, maybe that will shut the crows up for a bit, one team I cannot stand, think they are bleeding chocolate :bluescarf:

Problem is the ball always goes over Wilson so he is just having to pick up knock downs and second balls. If it could be played through the middle/on the floor we’d see the best out of him - games like today will never be that.

Totally agree. Central midfield has been a problem for a couple of seasons. I fear it will cost us again. Not enough creativity to get the best out of our strikers and wingers.
Mowatt of Barnsley, Chair of QPR, Callum O'Hare of Coventry or Callum Styles of Barnsley. Any two of them in our midfield and we'd be challenging near the top. :bluescarf:
