' Getting the best out of individuals '
McCarthy has also applied his vast experience as a manager to getting the best out of certain players.
Harry Wilson, for instance, has become one of the most influential players in the squad, which is mainly thanks to allowing him more freedom in a number 10 role where he has more licence to roam and affect the game how he wants to.
In all the games Wilson played under Harris, the Welshman registered four assists, but in the 11 games since McCarthy has become manager he has added another five, taking his tally to nine for the season - second only in the league to Norwich City's Emi Buendia.
Perry Ng has been another individual who has shone under McCarthy. The young right wing-back exemplifies how Cardiff have mastered turning defence into attack with a string of top performances.
He has contributed three assists so far this season but has also looked stellar defensively. The Englishman has played 90 minutes on 10 occasions, but he was certainly missed during City’s draw to Huddersfield.
What is clear is that McCarthy has transformed Cardiff into real contenders and, in truth, fans would be disappointed not to get a spot in the play-offs amid this remarkable turnaround.
