Gareth Bale has revealed he supports Cardiff City and claimed they are a "bigger club" than Swansea City because they have won the FA Cup.

The Tottenham ace and former Swansea City star Joe Rodon enjoyed a tongue-in-cheek conversation about the rivalry between Cardiff and Swansea - and admitted they can't escape the discussions even on the Spurs training ground.

The Bluebirds and Swans are set to resume one of the most intense rivalries in British football later this month, with both sides aiming for a promotion tilt come the end of the season, as well as all-important bragging rights.

Former Swan Rodon knows all about the occasion and what it means to supporters, despite never actually playing in a derby match.

Then again, he was in a packed away end alongside former Swans striker Oli McBurnie during last season's clash at Cardiff City Stadium - a game he would have played in were it not for an ankle injury.

Growing up in Cardiff, and with his uncle Chris Pike a fan favourite among Bluebirds of a certain vintage, Bale too knows all about the rivalry, although unlike Rodon he is yet to play for his hometown club.

The pair, part of Tottenham's 'Welsh Mafia', were speaking as part of a live Twitch Q&A hosted by the club, and Bale admits there have already been some lively discussions on the training ground around which side of South Wales is superior.

GARETH BALE:

Bale said: "Cardiff's a bigger club, I said, because they've won the FA Cup.

"He [Joe] obviously disagrees because he's a Swan, but then he'll go to me 'you've never played for Cardiff'."

It's at this point Rodon chimes in: "They can't claim you. Cardiff cannot claim him."

But while there might be some friendly disagreements over their respective boyhood clubs, both players insist that when it comes to Wales, nothing else matters.

Bale continues: "Of course I'm from Cardiff, and I support Cardiff, but I'm a Welshman.

"I try to unite both if it's even possible.

"He [Joe] just doesn't want the Wales fans to boo him!"

Rodon responds in agreement: "We love Wales and that's all that matters."

That will be music to the ears of all those hoping for a successful showing at this summer's European Championships.

There has never been any doubt that

a) We are a much bigger club
b) We have a much larger fan base
c) We are a thriving Capitol City that attracts more investment
d) have an as of yet untapped potential

We cannot deny though, that Swansea have had more recent success, and played better football for the majority of this season ( Although Mick has us playing decent stuff at the moment).

Oh, let's not forget that for all this 'holier than thou' attitude from down West, they have twice almost gone to the wall leaving local businesses to scrap for their livelihoods.

Lol - all we need is to find a manager and a couple of extra players that can hold their own in the premier. IF we could do that - everything else falls into place. As proven before - near sell out crowds, advertising, players will to come here etc.

What 'Gaz' needs to do is for him and Aaron to play their final season for us whenever their current contracts expire.

Give them the freedom of the city and a life time pass to Dot's or Tony's in Caroline street, that should be enough to swing it , happy days

Went to school in Cardiff, his uncle played for us and he ends up at Southampton. How did we miss him?

Perfect plan:
Splash out £12m on Wilson this season. Get to the prem next, Gareth runs his contract down and decides he will play for us for a measely 80k per week and tan will love marketing Bale and city all around Asia.
Load of welsh lads playing for Cardiff, Ramsey decides he wants to join when his contract is up the year after and all of a sudden we're in the Europa league :ayatollah: :bluebird:
A man can dream!
