Sol Bamba: "The gaffer, Mick McCarthy /Cardiff City/ Dream"

Mon Mar 08, 2021 1:14 pm

"THE GAFFER / CARDIFF CITY / THAT WOULD BE A DREAM SCENARIO."

SOL BAMBA:

"The gaffer, Mick McCarthy, has been very supportive to me. Just getting out the house, leave the missus and kids alone and go out and walk the dog when I can."

"To keep a routine, do a gym session, try to keep fit, that's what I'm doing."

Given Bamba is 36 and his contract expires at the end of the season, quite what the future holds with him in a playing capacity is on the back burner with his health clearly remaining the priority.

But, being a football man through and through and given just how highly regarded he is in this corner of the world, he is adamant that this will not be the way he retires from the game.

He is tentatively eyeing a return to the pitch at the back end of the season, however, if that is a stretch too far, he seems at ease with what the next stage of his career might bring.

"Football has been my whole life," he said. "First and foremost I want to get back, that's the main priority, but I am always looking forward.

"So, if I recover well and I am cleared to go by the doctor, maybe I will go back and play this season, maybe one game. One thing is for sure, I don't want to finish that way.

"If not, I am prepared for the next stage and hopefully I can go into management."

Bamba's absence has coincided with a dramatic upturn in results for the Bluebirds.

McCarthy's side have gone 11 games unbeaten, winning seven during that period, and are now well and truly in the play-off conversation.

While McCarthy is not daring to dream, repeatedly insisting his feet are remaining firmly on the ground, that hasn't stopped Bamba.

So, how about returning at Wembley at the end of May as Cardiff City secure an almost miraculous promotion?

"That would be the dream scenario!" he said.

"First and foremost, I get well. Hopefully Cardiff can get to the play-offs and we can go up.

"Fingers crossed that is the case."

NW will offer him a position at Boro on the coaching staff and he will go.

First and foremost of course i hope he gets better. In terms of his career I hope we offer him a job on the coaching staff either in the under 23s or the first team. Just hope he will recover soon. A true bluebird legend

That would make sense but he is highly thought of in the corridors of the CCS and, I'm told, they want to keep him here in some capacity beyond his current dal

I guess at that point a decision will have to be made by Sol; but for now, I just wish him a full and speedy recovery :thumbright:

Of course we all wish him well, and a full recovery from his illness, but he has to be in line for a place in the coaching set up here?
The good thing going for us,is he is settled here, seems to love the club (a rarity these days) and the fans, yes warnock & him have history, but as you say Chris, he is very highly thought of at the club, and us fans of course, this must be to our advantage?

And lastly, if you are reading this SOL BAMBA, CARDIFF, OR SHITTY OLD MIDDLESBROUGH, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO! :ayatollah: :old: :bluebird:

Chris,

He might be highly thought of but boils down once again to money. If they take him on someone else may have to go and I don’t think he will get the wages he’s on now. He’s very close to NW or he might get snapped up by Sky and go that route.

He would be great for us but think his future lies elsewhere.
