Mick McCarthy: " Ciaron Brown "

Sun Mar 07, 2021 5:26 pm

Ciaron Brown looks set for a run in the Cardiff City first-team after making his debut for the Bluebirds on Friday night.

The left-sided defender has had to be patient for his chance, taking in three loan spells at Livingston as he built up experience to stand him in good stead for the Cardiff City first-team. Mick McCarthy recalled him from Livingston in January to help provide cover in Wales.

Brown was at Livingston during the first part of the season.

And now with fellow left-back’s Joel Bagan dislocated shoulder and Joe Bennett’s ACL injury, Brown could be set to feature more regularly. He came off the bench for his debut against Huddersfield Town in a 0-0 draw as Bagan went off with his shoulder problem.

Cardiff City manager McCarthy was impressed by the former Livi man:

MICK McCARTHY:

“Joel did dislocate his shoulder. I’m not a doctor, but I do know lads who’ve dislocated them before and when it happens once, it can happen pretty easily again until they have the operation. Whether that’s the case with Joel, I don’t know.

“But he’s a very young player. So we want to look after him. He won’t be rushed back and he needs to be right. We’ve had dreadful luck [with full-backs]. But what about the luck that Tom Sang’s had, coming in and playing at right wing-back.

“Browny was equally good. He’s come in as a sub and he’s done a really good job. If that’s what we’ve got then that’s what we’ll go with. But I was delighted with those two, they were very, very good for debutants.”

Brown doesn’t look like a wing back, he seems more of a natural defender

Although both him and Sang did well defensively neither did much going forward, which was the main reason we were pretty toothless in attack against Huddersfield

But, only time will tell and I hope I’m wrong

Years ago, Man Utd converted Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia into very good traditional full backs. I’m sure Cardiff City could employ Junior Hoilett - who is often praised for his defensive efforts - in the more forward thinking wing back role.

You read my mind....I was thinking exactly the same earlier today.
Junior is good at chasing back out wide and would produce some useful crosses going forward for Moore.

Totally agree with looking at converting a winger to wingback. We're in big trouble if we're looking at Ciaron Brown to do the job long term.

Such a shame as Bagan looks really promising.

Nothing against Brown but you can clearly see that's not his position

Yea, its nothing against them who came in/on to play its just there aint naturals and were more defensive so we didnt really get anything going missing the width.

I think it ok having one playing, but we need 1 of the wing backs to offer somethign forward

I actually thought Tom Sang looked decent at wing back.

Ciaron Brown certainly looked like a CB being played out of position.
