Goal keepers

We have had some good goalkeeping competition in recent years Marshall v Heaton ad now Smithies v Phillips, difficult to say one was better than the other but my preference to play would have been Heaton and now Phillips

Agree we've had some really decent keepers in recent years.

And it's weird how often we've had two really good keepers at the same time.

Marshall and Heaton
Etheridge and Smithies
Smithies and Phillips

We've also had some shite keepers recently as well though!

We have been fortunate with GKs for sure but if I had to pick the best it would be Marshall. Nice problem to have though.

Enckelman cost us the FA cup :(

Marshall had the no1 jersey ahead of Heaton. TH went on to play a lot of Premiership matches. Id hazard a guess a few more than Marshall

I can see another Marshall/Heaton or etheridge/smithies dilemma next season with smithies and Phillips. Phillips has shown he is more than capable in this league and I can't imagine either keeper will be happy on the bench. Phillips is probably on considerably less than smithies and we could probably get a decent sum for smithies as well. The club could be tempted to sell him to make funds available and bring down the wage bill.

Stephen Bywater used to give me mild heart attacks whenever the ball went near him.

We have had some real duffers over the years, by far the worst and his name escapes me and I couldn't spell it anyway is the Greek sounding guy. Enkleman did us no favours and there was also a few others

Agree .

Wry strange position for us in my lifetime. We either seem to have two brilliant ones or two awful ones! I think smithies will be moved on in the summer purely because of finances. He is apparently a relatively big earner and will command an ok fee. With the financial impact on the championship now with covid we probably can’t afford to keep a high earning second choice keeper

And who was that keeper who replaced Marshall when he was injured at the end of the season when we lost in the semi final play offs to Reading? He was a disaster as well. And for those oldies out there - Frank Parsons

was it Turnbull who was absolutely garbage who played for us and went on too win a champions league winners medal and a premier league winners medal by always being number two keeper.

The best goalkeeper (career wise) we have had in my lifetime is Schmeichael.

My favourites though were Tony Elliot (The Axeman) and Jon Hallworth, not for ability but for pure character and relationship with the fans at the smaller grounds.

He's got a champions league winners medal yeah as an unused sub.

Barely played 100 games in a 18 year Career, he's stolen a living.

Hennesy all day long.

Danny Ward is only 27 and Wayne Hennesy, whilst out of favour at Palace at the moment has well over 300 career games under his belt, with well over 100 in the Premier League and has 94 Welsh Caps.

For his experience and relationship he's build up with the Welsh Team over the last load of campaigns I'd stick with him for now and look to bring Danny in after the Euros with the hope he will either take over from Kasper (who's 35 this year) or move on and start playing somewhere else.

You are all forgetting Amos. Trollope bought him in and Warnock got rid.
