Ralls

Why oh why was he on the pitch.not strong enough for the top end of the championship. We have looked strong recently going forward but tonight midfield was poor.

Poor at best. Offered nothing.

Very very poor tonight

Glad it's not only me that thinks he's not up to it, constantly giving away silly free kicks and cant pass the ball to save his life. Obrien for them was excellent and played a Jonny Williams type game running at us

Not a great fan of Ralls but in fairness to him he's just come back from injury and will need a bit of time to get up to speed and fitness.

He's been trusted and rated by almost every manager who he's played under at Cardiff so he must have something about him even if some of us struggle to see exactly what that is!

Having said all that he was very poor tonight and as has been mentioned him and Vaulks together in central midfield just does not work and hopefully Mick will have seen that tonight.

Not sure how you can say he's not good enough for the top end of the Championship when the manager who brought him into the team got us promoted the next season, he played 37 games in a season we were automatically promoted, 29 of our 38 Premier League games, 27 games last season when we reached the play offs and has now played 29 of our 35 games this season when we're once again fighting for the top 6 :?

In fact in the 9 seasons since he made his debut we've not finished outside the top half of the Championship once.

Stop pointing out the obvious and just jump on the bandwagon.

My opinion is that Ralls is an excellent player by Championship standards, and whilst he was off the pace against Huddersfield having just returned from injury, these stats appear to speak volumes for a player who has been a trusted servant to Cardiff City FC.

I've defended him in the past, but he was very poor tonight.

We missed Pack a lot.

Would expect the midfield pairing of Vaulks and Pack to return for the Watford game.

a jonny williams type.... im sure o brien would be over the moon being compared to jonny
joe had a poor game but has been a consistent top end championship player for 9 years... o brien will do well to have joes record in 6 or 7 years time...jonny im afraid will never have it unless his career has an indian summer in his 30s...

Been moaning about Ralls for some time and tonight showed why...

The team have performed better without him of late, as he rarely puts in a performance of note lately :(

Good & honest post  wow them 9 seasons have flown, but it's strange how some see things differently, I guess that's why we ain't managers

He's been a great servant to the club, and deserves respect for that , 9 seasons people :( yes he hasn't been himself (injury playing a part in that) and is just coming back ,so will need a little time to get up to speed, personally I would have had him on the bench with that in mind, as we have been playing well without him, and he should be made to wait, a bit like Smithies.

In truth not many on that pitch, covered themselves in glory, but sang looked not out of place, and brown did ok too, so a little more depth on the bench, and now with a taste of 1st team football, they should both feel proud  :old: :bluebird:

im not a big fan either but to be fair last night
he was a player coming back from injury into a side out of gas... poor game to watch but a gritty performance.. we played differently , didnt apply the high press at all . it wasnt half hearted it just didnt happen which i think suggests it was the manager seeing the tiredness and therefore dropping it... plus we also had 2/3 new full backs... so all in all bit harsh on joe ?

Very very poor full stop. I don’t get the raving of him from some supporters and too think a certain troobloo3339 in this forum said that Ralls was better than the late great Mr Peter Whittingham R.I.P. and suggested that he would be his replacement, laughable really, Ralls never, and would never be fit to lace the great mans boots.
We have much better midfielders in the squad than Ralls.

Your last comment is laughable fella, you think we haven’t finished outside the top half of the championship in 9 seasons because of Ralls? he had better midfielders around him which made him look good

Yeah I think we missed Pack. Him and Vaulks seem to work well together.

i dont think he was saying that it was all down to Ralls ..... personally ive always thought at some point he would be replaced but the reality is one manager after another keeps picking him in teams that are top half championship... no escaping that its the truth....

I didn't say that did I? I'm disputing the comment that he's not good enough for a top end Championship team when 7 different managers (12 if you listen to some posters) have deemed him good enough to play in a team that is consistently fighting for promotion.
Ralls has played nearly 300 games for a team that hasn't finished outside the top half of the Championship since the 06/07 season, a feat that I would argue makes us a top end Championship team.

Re: Ralls

He wasn't great all game and i was surprised he never went off in a double sub with Murphy who was another that nothing he tried worked last night

I think Vaulks and Ralls is our best sitting partnership, but their extra man in the middle never gave them a second.

Its a trait on here to totally miss what the opposition do. They never had a second on the ball so every "pass" was a without a touch and a bit hit and hope first time. This stopped the front 3 having decent ball. NG & Bennett gave us that extra manning and often came inside.
Last night we had a debut and a nipper playing at wingbacks then we had a centre half also making his debut.

Pack doesn't give us the legs we need in this system and does give the ball away in dodgy areas. I was surprised Bacuna never came on.

Fair points there and probably right on last night; but I've not been too 'happy' with his place in the team (not his actual effort) for some time and sadly, I think his game has dropped off or some time. For me, Pack is the biggest influencer in midfield now and should be ahead on the team sheet until Joe pushes him out on merit

Re: Ralls

Never really got the Ralls love-in ! He’s been a good servant but he never really dominates the opposition.

He doesn’t score goals (apart from penalties), his assists are woefully low for a midfielder, he’s not a great tackler and he lacks pace ........ apart from that he’s great!!!!

Pack lacks pace but he’s good in the air, his passing range is as good as anyone in the squad, he’s an organiser and he knows when to keep it simple. He and Vaulks are certainly the best partnership in this shape.
