‘What a player; please stay’: Fans beg Liverpool loanee to leave Anfield for good

After spending the last six years jumping from club to club, Reims to Rangers, Wolves to Wigan, has Sheyi Ojo finally found a home in South Wales?

Since joining Cardiff City on yet another loan deal last summer, the Liverpool-owned winger is finally starting to make good on his potential, producing on a twice-weekly basis for a Bluebirds side storming up the Championship table at a rate of knots.

Ojo was in irrepressible form once again as Mick McCarthy’s winning-machine steamrollered Derby County on Tuesday night.

Ojo bagged his seventh assist of the season when setting up Leandro Bacuna’s 56th-minute effort in a 4-0 thrashing that was every bit as one-sided as the score-line suggests.

The 23-year-old has scored a further five goals himself in Cardiff colours – making 2020/21 the most prolific league campaign of his nomadic career.

Some eye-catching displays against the likes of Derby, Luton and Rotherham United won’t be enough to earn Ojo a run of games in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side, of course.

After a never-ending series of short-term stays, this feels like the ideal time to finally cut himself free of Anfield for good.

It remains to be seen whether Cardiff can stump up the sort of fee Liverpool want – the Reds are renowned for demanding huge sums for even seldom-seen youngsters – but Ojo would certainly be welcomed back with open arms in South Wales.

LIVERPOOL LIVE:

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We would not be against the club selling Ojo. The reality is, he has only made 13 senior appearances for Liverpool. Ojo made his senior debut back in 2016.

If Ojo had a future at Liverpool, it would be fair to assume that the club would have given him more opportunity over the years.

Ojo has a current market value of €2 million. The aforementioned figure highlights that Liverpool would not receive much money if they were to sell Ojo.

But, there is no point in keeping Ojo if he has no future at the club.

If that valuation is anywhere near correct, then that’s a bargain .

I’d definitely keep him if it’s an option. Realistically we aren’t keeping Wilson but ojo and Murphy are basically maintaining the attacking approach we already have. It’s not exactly like for like but it’s close. Tomlin is in the wings too

don't think tomlin will be in the wings or a blue shirt next season

Sheyi Ojo is another one who seems to have blossomed under Mick McCarthy...

Showed 'promise' at the start of the season but seemed to fade away a little and was intermittent at best...

Last few weeks he has been one of several class players and has been instrumental in shooting the Bluebirds into serious Play-off contenders

He needs a settled 'home' at this point in his career and one to keep, if possible IMHO :ayatollah:

I'd love us to sign Ojo permanently

I think he will get better.

Rarely do we have wingers with pace, skill and crossing ability coupled with an unbelievable work rate and willingness to track back.

Would we miss someone who is never here ?

The better he does for us this season, the more his value goes up. I can't see us spending £2mill on a player - unless we sell first.

Agree - And again as I posted before... We need to be thankful to Liverpool for loaning 2 Good players to us this season.
After All that has happened before with loaned players from that club in the past .

If that price is real, surely we can have a whip round :o (only jesting ;) ) but if we don't go up, that's the kind of price range we will be in, unless tan decides to give Mick a bit of backing. But in answer ,yes of course, he has been improving under MM, and I think there's more to come from him  :old: :bluebird:

I know it’s all dependent on finances etc, but one wonders it now that MM has been given a contract, we could be in a good position to land Ojo?

Sorry to be contrarian, but I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Undoubtedly he has good close control and is a decent dribbler without being outstanding like Tomlin or Williams. He has good technique and shot, but he is so left-footed it painful, especially for a guy from a top academy

It appears to me he is often flat-footed where he doesn't seem to get going until a step too late. And for me, it's that lack of acceleration that stops him from being a top player in the English game.

I want speed, so unless he is a second striker or 10 (like Tomlin) and you have pace on the flanks or as centre forward I am unsure where he fits most teams.

He is a good player in the right system, but i wouldn't be paying more than a million for him, but hanging a figure on any player in this market is difficult.

I think he's very quick and his crossing is excellent.

7 assists so far and getting an assist nearly every game since MM took over, he's also scored 5 goals.

Between Ojo, Wilson and Murphy they have nearly 20 assist between them and 11 goals.

I can't remember the last time we had wingers who contributed as much as that. If MM had been here longer these stats would also be much better.

Not sure about "begging" but yeah, for that price I would love us to sign him. At 23 years old I think he's shown us enough to prove he could turn into a very good player. :bluescarf:

I'd have him and his raw talent and efforts over Tomlin.
