Derby boss Wayne Rooney said:

"It is a bitterly disappointing result. We had a bit of control in possession, but it didn't translate into the final third.

"It is not nice to concede four goals, it is something we will look at.

"We will now prepare for Saturday which is a big game for us.

"We made the changes as we had been monitoring the players and felt it was the right time to give them a rest.

"It was a gamble to do that, I know that and unfortunately it didn't pay off."

I was totally surprised with the Derby selection last night. I was confident before the game we would get the 3 points but when I saw their team line up it was then I felt they had given us the 3 points. I think Rooney knew his best 11 would have still loss to us so decided to rest a few of them. I wanted to see how our 3 CH managed Kazim-Richards but Rooney gave them the night off.

I think Derby basically decided they were not going to get anything from the game and threw it by making six changes an resting their best players. The last time I remember something like that happening was when ManUtd were at there best under Alex Ferguson and were at home to Wolves who fielded a reserve side against them on the basis they had no chance anyway. Much criticised at the time for doing it and they lost the next game anyway. Their manager at the time was Mick McCarthy.

Be handy if it happens again.

Ironically we did the same against Derby.

It was the last game of the season and we were in the play offs. We field a side none of us there recognised. I remember all of us looking at ourselves and saying "What the f%$k we don't care" We look like a bunch of idiots as we were all dressed up in costumes. We lost 2 nil, Derby fans raced onto the pitch with a cordon around us from the police. God knows what the Derby fans thought when the Jacks draw was announced confining them into another season in the Championship and we all started jumping up and down in celebrity style.
