Cardiff City: Phillips; Morrison, Flint, Nelson; Ng, Vaulks, Pack, Bacuna, Bennett; Ojo, Moore.

Subs: Smithies, Bagan, Ralls, Williams, Wilson, Colwill, Murphy, Hoilett, Harris.

CARDIFF CITY FC: :bluebird:

Joe Ralls and Junior Hoilett having been restored to the bench up on Teesside, McCarthy now has a strong squad to choose from and we could see some rotation for the first time in a while.

Lee Tomlin once again had another set back and missed yesterdays U23's through an illness.

Interestingly, both Max Watters and Ciaron Brown played for the under-23s, too, making it unlikely they will feature against the Rams.

Jordi Osei-Tutu is still on track to return to Cardiff next week after recovering from his awful hamstring injury.

Isaac Vassell remains absent, though.

Derby County:

Derby will assess goalkeeper David Marshall ahead of the trip to south Wales.

Marshall is a doubt after being forced off with a back problem during Friday’s draw against Nottingham Forest, with Kelle Roos ready to deputise if required.

Rams forward Jack Stretton, who has not featured since mid-December, is back in contention following a groin issue.

Tom Lawrence remains sidelined with an ankle injury, while Krystian Bielik (knee) and Curtis Davies (Achilles) are out for the season.

About Derby County

Derby County Football Club is a professional association football club based in Derby, Derbyshire, England. The club competes in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football, and has played its home matches at Pride Park Stadium since 1997.

Notable for being one of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888, Derby County is one of only 10 clubs to have competed in every season of the English football league system, with all but four of those being in the top two divisions. In 2009, the club was ranked 137th in the top 200 European football teams of the 20th century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.

The club was founded in 1884 by William Morley as an offshoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Its competitive peak came in the 1970s when it twice won the First Division and competed in major European competitions on four occasions, reaching the European Cup semi-finals as well as winning several minor trophies. Additionally, the club was a strong force in the interwar years - finishing league runner-up twice in the 1930s - and won the first post-war FA Cup in 1946.

The club's home colours have been black and white since the 1890s. The team gets its nickname, The Rams, to show tribute to its links with the First Regiment of Derby Militia, which took a ram as its mascot. Additionally, the club also adopted the song "The Derby Ram" as its regimental song. They have a long-standing rivalry with nearby club Nottingham Forest, with whom they contest the East Midlands derby.

Absolutely we must win this game if we are to maintain our challenge for the playoffs.
Depending on what team MM puts out we should be comfortable winners here so I’m predicting 3-0 City win.

Going for 2-1 again! Derby have improved some of late,so I think it will be close, but we need to switch it up a little,my concer is with the way we are playing, who can replace Moore, who is looking a tad jaded(his 100% all out attitude and effort catching up) 10 undefeated! Isnt that one better than the jacks this season? Im sure i read on here they went 9 games?, if so, so have we,lol.

If DC play 3 in midfield then we’ll struggle for any possession like we did yesterday.
He may shuffle midfield and play Williams, Ralls & Hoilett to mix it up bearing in mind we play again in 72 hours.
Not sure he’ll rest Moore - without him we’ve nothing up front.

Problem is there is no replacement for Moore. I don't really think Mark Harris is a striker he can play football alright but doesn't seem to be able to get in position to score goals very well so far. Maybe he will improve as he is not very experienced at first team level but it must be questionable whether he is a striker. His scoring rate for Wrexham was poor and that was in the national league. As for Watters who knows it seems like a bit of an Ole signing sign a player without really knowing what to do with him. He might turn out that he is pretty useless at this level or he might be a good scorer. Not sure is McCarthy is going to take a risk trying to find out. Moore is so vital to us it would be handy if he got a minor injury during international week so he could have a rest.

Pity we didn't get Cameron Jerome during the January window he would have been excellent cover for Moore.

That is the problem, or would be if he gets injured. He’s in the game for 90 minutes and has no chance for a breather.

Not sure why he let Glatzel go without having a replacement. Maybe he thought he had Jerome lined up.

It’s a tall task for Moore to stay fit for 90 minutes every time; as I said above we then play in 72 hours time. Plus he’s got the international week.

My concerns also, when Glatzel left, MM said he'd have no problems playing Watters or Harris, and yet neither has really featured ? Moore looked out on his feet at boro, and the schedule just gets mote manic! Plus he will feature on international duty, if he burns out, what then? Harris and someone else up front? As I don't think Watters can be impressing MM in training, otherwise why not in the squad, and not u 23's instead? Let's hope MM has a plan in mind, just in case. :old: :bluebird:

Ps not having a pop at Watters, and I hope he is just "settling in" as it's a step up from where he has been playing.

Glatzel, Harris, watters, wilson, ojo or Murphy. It doesnt matter who it is as none are target men. So glatzel isn't really a loss there. Glatzel wasn't particularly skillful, creative, quick or strong on the ball. So isnt really a loss there either.

Its difficult to bring moore off when the game is tight as he is an easy outlet for the defence when we are under pressure and he is also very useful at defending corners or freekicks. If anything happens to Moore City will have to adapt their game and get the ball up to our front men in a way they can deal with it. To feet, through the channels or over the top. It wouldn't be any different if glatzel was still here.

I take it you dont like glatzel then! I never mentioned him being missed did I? Just pointed out MM had said he would have no worries playing watters, when now it seems he isnt sure? Lets hope his 2nd half performance gives him a lift today(watters,as he scored 2 for u 23's) but it doesnt seem he is ready to step up yet, time will tell.I dont agree re glatzel by the way,but thats opinions for you.

No worries for Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy ahead of Derby fixture

Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy appears to have no fresh selection concerns ahead of the visit of Derby in the Sky Bet Championship.

Bluebirds midfielder Joe Ralls returned from an ankle injury during Saturday’s draw at Middlesbrough, while Junior Hoilett was an unused substitute at the Riverside Stadium having missed four matches with a calf problem.

On-loan Arsenal defender Jordi Osei-Tutu has not played since October and remains unavailable.

Forward Lee Tomlin, who has also been absent for five months and remains still unfit.

Derby County:

After a tricky start to the campaign, Wayne Rooney’s transition from player-coach to permanent manager at Pride Park has helped the Rams move away from the relegation places. County currently occupy 18th position in the Championship table, with ten wins, eight draws and 14 defeats from their 32 league matches. Derby hold a nine-point lead over 22nd place Rotherham United, and could move as high as 15th with victory in South Wales.

The Rams’ poor beginning to the season, which saw them sitting at the foot of the table for most of November, led to the dismissal of Phillip Cocu on November 14th. Indeed, County have enjoyed a mid-season revival under their new manager, moving out of the drop zone on December 29th and pulling clear of the bottom three in recent weeks. Since Rooney was named as Derby’s permanent boss on November 26th, his side have picked up 32 points, suffering just five Championship defeats.

Derby come into Tuesday’s clash with six victories from their last nine matches. In late January, the Rams recorded three consecutive wins, defeating AFC Bournemouth, Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City, with a 1-0 scoreline in all three games. Defeat to Rotherham United followed, but the Rams returned to winning ways by beating Middlesbrough and Wycombe Wanderers. In their most recent outing, County earned a 1-1 draw with their fierce local rivals, Nottingham Forest.

Just had a look at their forum, while some are thinking a win for them, the majority predicting a win for us
I think an early goal for us will settle the nerves a little, but I still think we will win, but not by many, possibly 2-1 . But still a win nonetheless, as a draw at home now, is not needed, but would keep the undefeated run going. :ayatollah: :old: :bluebird:

Match facts

Cardiff are looking to win back-to-back Championship home games over Derby for the first time since winning four in a row from April 2009 to April 2012.

Derby have only won one of their last six Championship meetings with Cardiff (D3 L2), winning 3-1 in April 2018 under Gary Rowett.

Cardiff will be looking to go 10 Championship games without defeat for the first time since April 2018 under Neil Warnock (a run of 13), in their last promotion-winning campaign.

Since losing consecutive Championship games at the start of January, Derby have only lost two of their last nine games in the competition (W6 D1).

Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy has lost each of his last four home league matches against Derby County, each with Ipswich from January 2015 to December 2017.

Derby County are sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper and former Bluebirds hero David Marshall, who hurt his back against Nottingham Forest on Friday night. He will undergo a late assessment.

Curtis Davies (Achilles) and Krystian Bielik (torn knee ligament) will also be missing for the visitors, while ex-Cardiff City player Tom Lawrence is also absent with an ankle injury.

Jordon Ibe and Jack Stretton will also not be fit enough to face the Bluebirds.

Whether I liked him or not doesn't change anything. He was an average player in the wrong team. You asked what will happen if Moore gets injured now that glatzel has gone, and I answered. Glatzel was not a target man and doesnt bring more to the table than what wilson or ojo could do playing as a forward. Harris and watters are similar players so you don't really need both on the bench. Maybe mick just prefers Harris.

I didnt "ask" anything I voiced my concern, and was aimed at what MM had said regards to playing watters! The only mention of glatzel was in reference to the statement mm had made at the time of leaving(glatzel) hope that clarifies it for you?.

Mate, there are 4 question marks in your initial statement  I was just adding to the thread and responding to your 'concerns'. Not sure a public forum is the best place to post if you dont want people replying to what you say and question marks kind of invite a response.

Just to clarify, I answered you concerns on why watters and Harris havnt featured much as well what would happen if Moore got injured :thumbright:
