MY VIEW:WARNOCK WENT HEAD TO HEAD WITH BIG MICK AND A GAME D

Sat Feb 27, 2021 4:49 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

NEIL WARNOCK WENT HEAD TO HEAD WITH BIG MICK AND A GAME DOMINATED BY BORO ENDED IN A POINT A PIECE WITH CARDIFF NOW ON A 9 MATCH UNBEATEN RUN, 6 WINS / 3 DRAWS / BUT DROP OUT OF THE TOP 6.

Only Warnock could end City's winning run of 6 games.

Ex City player Mendez-Laing Started for Boro and played quite well, but nothing special and never caused any real problems, was sub in 69th min.

There looked a lot of tired Cardiff legs out there today.

First-half: First 30mins, I would say Boro looked the far better side and controlled the game, City were really not in it.Out of No where Morrison scored against the run of play :bluebird:

Second-half: Boro again looked by far the better team and got their deserved equaliser.

BORO WERE BY FAR THE BETTER TEAM TODAY/ BUT HAPPY WITH A POINT AWAY :bluebird: :bluebird:

MIDDLESBOROUGH 1 CARDIFF CITY 1 :bluebird: :bluebird:
H-T 0-1

Cardiff City: Phillips; Morrison, Flint, Nelson; Ng, Vaulks, Pack, Bennett; Wilson; Murphy, Moore.

Subs: Smithies, Bagan, Sang, Bacuna, Ralls, Williams, Ojo, Hoilett, Harris.

Boro started brightly, but City thanks to Kieffer Moore, had the best chance, a good free kick saved by the palm of the Boro keepers hand.

First 30mins, I would say Boro looked the far better side and controlled the game, City were really not in it.

38th min: Out of No where Morrison scored against the run of play, Will Vaulks bombed a long throw into the box and Morrison, who doesn't even have to jump, glances a header towards the far post and it dribbles i 0-1 :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

City finished the last 7mins comfortable :bluebird: :bluebird:

H-T 0-1 :bluebird:

Boro continued to dominate the game, but without able to get many clear chances in front of goal.

62mins Ojo on for Murphy

For long periods boring and quite dire football from both clubs.

68th min: Ralls on, Vaulks off.

Bacuna on, Wilson off.

Warnock then did a double Sub:
Boro subs.

Johnson on for Bola.

Kebano on for Mendez-Laing.

There was nothing to really report as the game went on, it became mostly a battle in midfield.

Boro then started to put the pressure on.

You could see it coming.

82nd min
GOAL! Middlesbrough 1-1 Cardiff City (McNair)

Boro dominated this game.

Happy with the result in the end, it was a tough second half in a game we could well have lost.

Aden Flint my MOTM today, but Sean Morrison and Curtis Nelson were also excellent.

It's still 6 wins and three draws in Mick McCarthy's nine games so not too shabby

A draw away at Middlesbrough is not a bad result.

We move on to the next one against Derby on Tuesday :thumbright:

We were playing with 10 men most of the 2nd half, Moore should have come off and put anyone with a pair of legs on.

I thought would end up worse today. We have out battled and out fought teams so far and then let Wilson, keiffer and Murphy/OJO play. That has been too much for most teams but as we all know Warnock will not let that happen. Not great today but decent point, main concern is that keiffer looks knackered and we have no replacement for him. Anyway that was one of the toughest battles we’ll have and in most games we’ll be the grafters. Onwards and upwards and we’ll see where we end up

the Wilson/Murphy sub for Ojo/Bacuna kills any attacking intent

Lots of tired legs with little rest in the schedule. BIg decision for MM

That could be a useful point at the end of the season. We are well in the mix though so pleased in the end. Boro were the better team and we looked tired after our efforts against Bournemouth. Time for a change Tuesday. Ralls and Ojo must start. Moore needs a rest, could Watters start?

Put it down to playing against warnock's tactics as we didn't put 2 passes together or hold ball for longer than seconds? But think MM got it wrong 2nd half moore needed to come off and Harris on for some energy ....but a point away is good and as long as go unbeaten for next 9 games we will be in good place at end of it..

That's a good point. Boro were always going to be the fresher team today with 2 home games this week and a day extra rest.

Agree about the subs killing ant attacking intent but it shouldn't. Ojo and Bacuna are both attacking midfielders yet when they came on for Murphy and Wilson went into defensive mode and there was only going to be one team that was going to win it. It would be great to rest Moore but can we function up front without him.

Don't think we have any chance of automatic promotion but had a look at Bournemouh's remaining fixtures and they are tough. Starting in midweek away to Bristol City where Nigel Pearson his doing a Mick McCarthy and seems to have completely revived them followed by Preston away.

A lot of travelling this week , one end of the country to the other , players looked a bit jaded today and substitutions as Wednesday seemed to put us on the back foot ?

Warnock was always going to be up for this one so please to take a point and continue unbeaten run :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

We had no attacking intent whole 2nd half for whatever reason mainly inability to pass ball or hold onto it for more than seconds at a time! Mm needs to have faith in Harris or watters to play bigger part in games to give moore a rest..

Totally agree. Last year we relied on Tomlin and then lost it when he was injured. We cannot expect Moore to play all the way through the season in every game.

Four points from two tough away games in three days travelling the whole length of the country and nine games unbeaten - have to be happy with that!

The two goals conceded this week were both from unfortunate deflections in our own box rather than from our defence being breached so for me that's a positive too.

Disappointed with our ball retention today - we couldn't seem to string two passes together and there were an awful lot of aimless balls just kicked anywhere.

A conundrum for Mick is how to make the changes he needs to make during the game without it affecting us as much as it seems to be doing at the moment.

Amazed that we didn't have one corner today which shows how little threat we posed going forward. Undoubtedly tiredness will have played a part but the games are still coming thick and fast for a few weeks yet!

If took moore off it wouldn't have changed anything other than we might have pocessed more attacking intent with Harris on field
