Has Tomlin a place in a Mick's side?

Mick McCarthy said today that Lee Tomlin was nowhere near ready to play the way Wilson and Murphy do. Given that his fitness has never been at the sort of level that you need to play a pressing game, I doubt we will ever see him start while MM is in charge, and a place on the bench even, not guaranteed.

It saddens me that we have a player with the talent of Tomlin and he isnt guaranteed some time on the field.
He doesn't chase back enough?
So what! he has fantastic talent , he changes and wins games.

I cant say I'm surprised.

He doesn't give 100% every game, he's not that type of player and never will be.

As we have seen from recent matches, these players are giving absolutely everything to try and get the result. Tomlin wouldn't do that.

But he's a good option from the bench in games when we're losing or drawing for some creativity, until he gets injured again.

You are so bang on Ned :thumbright: :thumbright:

Sub, perfect :thumbright:

For me, Tomlin is not a Mick McCarthy type player, if we depended on Tomlin, we would be relegated.

I’m a fan of Tomlin but Deffo bench only, the way we play.

Tomlins a perfect player that can come off the bench and change a game if needed and mm knows that :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

I watched Mick's presser and it felt to me that he was having a dig at Tomlin. I then watched his goal for the U23's and I must say he looked a wee bit porky.

A fit Tomlin is an incredible talent, but not always suited to a team who's ethic is all about workrate, win the ball and then show your skills. I'm not sure Tomlin is cut out for that sort of team.

Put him on the bench yes, but only play if we need a bit of magic to scrape back a draw from defeat, or sneak a win. :bluebird:

So to sum up a great player but too fat to last 90 minutes of football?.

Given the way we play, and the fact that our starting 11 all battle and give 100% for every second they're on the pitch - he's not a starter.

He can be if he can get fit like he was last season. He’s been out injured for the best part of a year. Of course he isn’t ready yet.

Can’t see how anybody can give Tomlin no chance under MM as the the doesn’t give 100%.If MM can get Murphy (never a100% player) into his side then Tomlin will be a breeze.
Agree when he’s ready and fit the subs bench will be his starting place but don’t rule him out as he’s a talent.

Watching the game today then hell yes he would improve this team when/if fit enough.

Paul, I have always said Tomlin is real quality :bluebird: :bluebird: , but fitness has always been one of his problems, he also takes a lot longer to get fitter than most players

He has never been fit enough to play a 90 minute match even during his peterborough days. I wouldnt even say he is lazy. Seems to be mentally weak sadly . We will need him in some capacity before the end of the season. Shame, as we all know he has ability

It was said that Murphy wasn’t that type of player not that long ago.

Tomlin puts himself about when he’s on the pitch.

Please can we not forget. He played through a hip injury last season to get us to the playoffs. Probably making it worse.

Murphy is an athlete , LT is not and never has been... i dont dispute he does not try his very hardest when on the pitch... but the prep just is not there to do those hard yards ,its why he is playing championship football not premier league....

This is true.

My point was made in response to someone saying he doesn’t give 100%.

Why not just quote me directly, then?

My opinion is he doesn't give 100%. I would argue that, during his time with us, he has never given 100%.

Tomlin is a luxury player and would also want to play in Wilson's position.

I've not been a huge fan of Wilson during his time with us (although he has been good since the new manager came in) but he is a lot better at tracking back than Tomlin.

Nobody is arguing that Tomlin wouldn't be a good option from the bench.

There is not room in the starting 11 for Moore, Murphy, Wilson and Tomlin. One of them will always miss out and it will always be Tomlin.

Tomlin can do real damage last 20.. if we’re in front we won’t be playing a pressing game by that stage. Also need to start resting players more, because according to reports they all look knackered..

I think when on the pitch he gives 100%.

As Skid said Murphy is an athlete. Tomlin clearly isn’t.

I think some people’s bodies aren’t conducive to professional sport. He probably could help himself more though.

Absolutely has a place in Mick’s side, I wouldn’t read into what MM says too much
He keeps his plans close to his chest and I feel a bit of reverse psychology there so Tomlin doesn’t think he can walk straight into the team.
