Jonathan Woodgate: "Cardiff like 'land of the giants' to play against."

JONATHAN Woodgate described facing Cardiff City as like coming up against "land of the giants" as he saw his side beaten 2-1 at Vitality Stadium.

The Bluebirds used their aerial prowess to take the lead with Sean Morrison heading home a Harry Wilson corner.

Kieffer Moore then doubled the tally from the penalty spot before Shane Long's second-half consolation for the hosts.

Mick McCarthy's side set their stall out early, loading the Cherries penalty area from the off via free-kicks, corners and long throws, something the hosts failed to get to grips with during the first half.

They improved after the restart, switching to a 4-4-2 and starting to cause problems of their own, but the damage had already been done.

Asked if he regretted not beginning with a back four and two strikers, Woodgate told the Daily Echo: "I thought we started off really well, to be honest with you. But then they got on top and get the set plays and they score a goal and we give them a penalty, which is a really bad decision on our point of view.

"They’re difficult to play against and we’re not the biggest team in the world.

"I think Cookie (Steve Cook) is the biggest we’ve got and he’s six foot one. They’ve got players who are six foot five, six foot six. It was land of the giants but that’s what you get in this league.

"They play it really well, Cardiff."

Very lazy by woodgate.

Moore, Morrison and Flint are all good sizes but the rest of the team are not.

Can you say ‘giant’ these days - people get worked up over the use of dwarf and midget when it comes to size.

Doesn’t bother me in this age of PC gone mad :old:

I despair of this lazy nonsense from mangers and pundits. Our side on Wednesday had Murphy, Wilson, Bennett, Bacuna, Vaulkes none of whom are more than 5 9 and i dont think Ng is very big either. Add in the fact that Nelson is a little on the short side for a centre back, Smithies is not the biggest keeper in the world and that other mainstays of our squad are Hoilett, Ralls and Tomlin are average height at best and we are anything but a team of giants. But that doesn't fit the narrative
