MY VIEW INCREDIBLE: BIG MICK PICKED AN UNCHANGED TEAM & ONCE

Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:02 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

INCREDIBLE: BIG MICK PICKED AN UNCHANGED TEAM & ONCE AGAIN CITY TOOK THE 3PTS :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Incredible to think nearly a month ago before Big Mick took over Cardiff had lost 6 consecutive games, looking towards a relegation battle and now Cardiff stand 3pts off the play-offs in 7th position, after a 6 match unbeaten run, 4 Wins & 2 Draws. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Pure class goals by Harry Wilson & Will Vaulks & great defending by City.

4 Wins on the bounce :bluebird: :bluebird:

Another 3pts, with a solid away performance :bluebird: :bluebird:

Are we really now dreaming of the play-offs :bluebird: :bluebird:

Great to see Alex Smithies back in the first team squad after his illness and also on the City bench, 4 Academy players included
Bagan, Brown, Colwill & Davies :thumbright: :bluebird:
The City bench was very young, due to injuries and City now having a small squad.

First-Half:My opinion, a bit of a battle, over all both had chances, Cardiff had most of the first 20 odd mins, with Luton most of the remainder and fair at 0-0 half-time. Nothing exciting.

Second-Half: Just pure class goals by Cardiff :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

LUTON T 0 CARDIFF CITY 2 :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:
H-T 0-0

Cardiff City (3-4-1-2): Phillips, Morrison, Flint, Nelson; Ng, Vaulks, Pack, Bennett; Wilson; Murphy, Moore.

Subs: Smithies, Brown, Bagan, Sang, Bacuna, Colwill, Harris, Davies, Watters.

After 30 mins, tough / rough game, plenty of fouls / free kicks / both had a couple of good chances, over all even stevens.

Dewsbury-Hall went for goal and Phillips had to be aware to tip it over the bar, great save by Phillips.

Luton getting into the game more. Cardiff were given away too many silly fouls and just could not grab hold of possession.

My opinion, a bit of a battle, over all both had chances, Cardiff had most of the first 20 odd mins, with Luton most of the remainder and fair at 0-0 half-time.

H-T 0-0

54mins: GOAL! Luton Town 0-1 Cardiff City (Wilson) :bluebird: :bluebird:

Goal! What a strike!

Perry Ng found Aden Flint with a lumped ball forward and the defender nodded it into the path of Wilson, who, 25 yards out, took a touch and bent it into the far corner. :bluebird:

Real class. :bluebird:

57th min: GOAL! Luton Town 0-2 Cardiff City (Vaulks) :bluebird: :bluebird:

Vaulks with another stunner!

A Bluebirds corner was half-cleared to Vaulks on the edge of the area and the Welshman hammered a volley towards goal, but it ricocheted off Sonny Bradley and into the back of the net.

Incredible technique from the midfielder. :thumbright: :thumbright:

0-2 :bluebird: :bluebird:

63min Luton

Harry Cornick and Tom Ince on.

Kal Naismith and Danny Hylton off.

74th min:
Moore came off, Watters on

76th min:
Wilson off Bacuna on

Murphy off Bagan on

City looked content to see the game out and the three subs were good for those who went off (more rest)and for those who came on (game time) :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

We were brilliant defensively.

Outstanding goal by Harry Wilson, who probably had one of his best games for us. Great goal by Will Vaulks too, even though had a deflection it was a good hit.

Another fantastic result.

Mick and Terry Connor are doing a great job :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Incredible indeed!

I wanted to be proved wrong by MM, I just did not want him in the job, and he has done just that.

He has already made such an impact that it highlights what a poor manager NH was.

More of the same MM please, keep proving me wrong!

I have a funny feeling Jonny Williams will have a big say in our run-in

Onwards and upwards :ayatollah:

Smiles and commitment... from players and fans. Going great and just shows we did have a good squad. If they can keep their heads and performances it can still be in their hands.

If they are all fit, why shouldn’t it be an unchanged side?

Hopefully a few are back for Saturday and the bench is stronger. :ayatollah:

Mick has got this side believing in themselves, the team are really playing for each other, subs did well,Watters need some game time to get him fit, he needs to start chasing everything, looks good though, keep it up lads. :bluebird:

I think that was a vastly improved second half. Incredible strike from Wilson, Nelson putting his body on the line yet again....

Is it just me, or does anyone else get somewhat nervous when Vaulks is on a yellow?

Most importantly another three points in the bag :bluescarf: :bluescarf:.

On a side note (if you can get past the fact that he sounds like a national trust attraction) that Dewsbury-Hall looked fairly decent.

Agree, Ned; a good defensive performance and both Nelson and Bennett (what a turn around from Saturday) were on great form

Super goals from both Wilson and Vaulks, which will hopefully boost the pair going forward

Liked the boy Dewsbury-Hall for Luton; but I'm sure I played golf there once...? :?

3 points is 3 points and we have two massive games versus Preston and Bournemouth up next :ayatollah:

I am still not convinced we are good enough to trouble the top 6 but what a run of results under McCarthy. Huge credit to him. It's so frustrating we didn't sack Harris earlier. Did not deserve our loyalt in my view. We've probably left it too late but If we can keep players fit and maybe even see Tomlin return (he had 45mins for U23 today) the end of season might be a surprise. Our nearest neighbours fluked it on the last day of last season didn't they.

Great performance and much better use of substitutes tonight able to give Keiffer an early night.

Nelson superb again - Murphy struggled to get into the game and a magnificent strike by Wilson.

Can’t believe how well big mick has done. When he was appointed I was 50/50 but what an amazing turnaround. Fair play to him, TC and the lads. We are on form and flying! Not trying to be negative but I’ve had a couple so I’m gonna say it... how bad does watters look? Seriously I’m not the biggest fan of glatzel but waters is no where near being able to deputise for kieffer. Hope I’m wrong but he doesn’t look anywhere near good enough. Anyway fantastic from the boys

Agree about the subs. We have another two weeks of two games a week and one of them against Bournemoth. Good for Bagan and Watters to get another outing even if it's only for 16 minutes. Thought three fresh pairs of legs helped a lot too. Moore is ever willing but he was feeling the pace at the end. I know he wasn't on for long but Watters was a bit disappointing. He failed to get on the end of a good back pass from Bacuna and there was a dodgy back pass. Guess he needs a bit of time on the pitch.

With so many games coming up we will need a bit of squad rotation.

Tbf to Watters, I’m not sure that the pass from Bacuna was that good. Straight at defender a should have been inside as Watters pointed out to him.
As you say, it’ll take time to get up to speed but I’m confident he’ll be ok. Certainly looked quick off the mark.

Couple of occasions he seemed to track back quite well, his pace from a standing start looks decent. Needs time, but hopefully he’ll be ok :thumbright:.

A thoroughly controlled performance and we look a different team playing a back 3, who, I thought were superb with Flint just shading MOM for me. I am looking forward to games now not apprehensive as before. We look more confident in possession these days. Onward and upward now. :bluescarf: :bluebird: :occasion5:

We look very solid, very organised and dangerous on the break and from every set play, he has done an unbelievable job!

Those players will surely start to tire, and on paper we have some good players waiting for their chance to step in.

Well done Mick, an absolutely outstanding job, I'm back really enjoying the football  :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Lets not kid ourselves , there are much better teams than us in the top 6. On form the top 3 currently would be my guess re who goes up, whuch is painful to admit. I think we just need to not be concerned about others or where we finish now. Just try and enjoy it.
