' At last, he looks set to play '

Mon Feb 15, 2021 7:11 am

Mick McCarthy says Jonny Williams is in contention to make his Cardifff City debut against Luton Town on Tuesday night.

Williams signed for the Bluebirds on the final day of the January transfer window, but is yet to make his full debut as a City player following a knock picked up in training and missed the first three games.

However, McCarthy says he is now in contention to face the Hatters, and with attacking players like Josh Murphy putting their hands up for a place in his first-team plans, he admits the return of the Wales international has given him a positive selection headache.

"Jonny Williams should be coming back," he said after the win over the Sky Blues.

"It's great. There's nothing worse than having injured players and you're desperate to get them fit because the others aren't playing very well.

I can't see Mm changing the team myself so could be the bench but who knows. Let's hope he gets a run of games as he's always bloody injured otherwise :bluescarf:

Will he get in the side? Big decision for MM as Jony is his signature signing. I imagine a place on the bench and a 20 minute run out when we are four up

If this was a normal season with games not coming quite as thick and fast, I'd say he would ease him into the side.

With games coming as fast as they are we need to regularly change the team up where we can.

Harris went through a period of an unchanged side for, what,? 5/6 games. Yes we went on a 4 game winning streak, but to what end? A host of injuries, then an even lengthier losing streak as players were knackered.

I agree

Off the bench would be the correct action, if he is to play at all; but he could then get a run of games subject to fitness

He'll be lucky to make the bench. With 1 or 2 academy players all chasing for a start and some others. At last we have some competition for places in the team and match day squad.
