KEIFFER MOORE RANKED CHAMPIONSHIPS 'BEST PLAYER'

Former Derby County target Kieffer Moore currently ranks as Championship’s best player
BY Tom Thorogood

What a bargain for £1mill plus add ons taking the total to just £1.5mill.

Friday 12th February 2021

Cardiff City striker Kieffer Moore currently ranks as the best player in the Championship and is another bargain buy Derby County will regret missing out on.

The Wales international attracted a host of attention last summer.

Wigan Athletic’s points deduction and subsequent relegation at the end of last season saw several clubs look at the Latics as an ideal opportunity to strike a bargain.

Talented youngster Joe Gelhardt was snapped up by Leeds United, while Jamal Lowe joined Swansea City and Derby signed Nathan Byrne and goalkeeper David Marshall.

But it’s Cardiff City striker Kieffer Moore who has performed best this season.

According to Wales Online, Derby wanted the striker alongside Millwall and Stoke City.

But it was the Bluebirds who won the race to sign the towering centre-forward. The BBC claim Cardiff signed Moore for a bargain £1mill plus £500,000 add ons.

While Cardiff haven’t managed to replicate their form of last season which saw them reach the playoffs, their summer signing from Wigan has certainly delivered.

Moore has posted 11 goals and one assist in 22 Championship starts. His most telling statistic is his average 11.1 aerial winners per game as he leads the line.

Moreover, the 28-year-old’s eight MOTM awards is the most of any Championship player this season and his Whoscored average of 7.60 sees him top of the pile.

Standing at 6ft 5inch, he is everything Derby have sorely missed this season.

The inability to sign Moore or a striker of his ilk last summer arguably cost Cocu his job and leaves Wayne Rooney with the task of preserving Derby’s Championship status.

Surprised at this, but have been very impressed by him.

He was a steal at the price we got him, due to the fact Wigan needed the money.

If he has a good Euros, then there will probably be some bigger clubs looking at him.

Some of our transfers finally seem to be sensible and well thought through. I'm sick to death of overpiad sick notes and 30+ journeymen. It seems the current financial climate has forced us to address these things. Long may it continue :ayatollah:

I'm surprised Ivan Toney didn't get mentioned as best player but I guess all around play and the money spent on Moore I can see why he's taken the title.

Long may it continue

I was really excited about this signing from the start having watched him for Wales. Honestly think if he was 24 the premier league would be knocking down the door for him. Outstanding player.
Hopefully we can get there for him.

If he did have a decent euros you wonder what fee he could command. In the region of 10/15 million surely?

He has been so important for us this season I fear we might fall apart without him up front. What would be our line up if we didn't have him in the team? We played Glatzel when here was here but he was wholly inadequate as he couldn't hold the ball up. I guess we would have to try some sort of Watters Wilson combination. We wouldn't be able to lump the ball up to them but at least there would be some mobility.

When Keiffer signed, there were a few negative comments made about him, in particular by True_Barry_Blue, but many (myself included !) could see that he definitely had something and didn't appear to get fazed that easily.

I expected him to get at least 12 goals this season and possibly more if he had the right service. Barring injury he's well on the way to blitzing that figure and at long last we appear to have a player who's not allergic to putting the ball in the back of the net.

I don't think we have any fear of him being poached by a PL team and I'm not sure how effective he'd be playing for any of the clubs currently at the top of the Championship. Plus, he's a Welsh international playing in the capital city and for a manager who obviously rates him highly.

After a miserable first half of the season, I believe he is currently our most important player by a mile. Such a shame that he's not yet had a chance to play for us in front of a live audience.

Don't get me wrong I love Kieffer but Ivan Toney is on 23 goals for the season already and will surely pass the 30 goals mark this season making him the highest goal scorer in Championship history.

Hands down Toney will be the player of the season.

Kieffer is doing great though and was an incredible signing.

Can't argue with that old son. Like his predecessors in the Brentford forward line, I fully expect him to be plying his trade in the Premier League next year. A perfect example of how to develop a football club. If they can hold their nerve I think they'll go up as champions. And deservedly so.
