‘ JOE RALLS / MARLON PACK ‘

Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy says injured midfielder Joe Ralls will be assessed ahead of Saturday's clash with Coventry City.

Wednesday 10th February 2021

The midfielder was withdrawn in the 63rd minute of the 2-1 win over Rotherham United on Tuesday night after picking up an ankle injury, and is subsequenlty an early doubt for the visit of the Sky Blues this weekend.

The win over the Millers preserved McCarthy's unbeaten record as Cardiff boss, but losing the in-form Ralls would certainly be a big blow heading into the coming weeks, with City desperately looking to make up ground on the Championship's top six.

MICK McCARTHY:

"He knocked his ankle, so we don't know yet," McCarthy said when asked about the extent of the midfielder's injury.

"We'll see how it reacts. He's got ice on it at the moment. I just hope it's not too bad. He rolled his ankle is all."

Ralls was replaced by Marlon Pack at the New York Stadium, and would be the most likely replacement should that ankle problem prove too much to overcome.

And, while he'd surely prefer all of his best players to be fit and firing, McCarthy is in no doubt that the former Bristol City man can step up to the challenge.

Indeed, Pack has clearly made a big impression behind the scenes under the Yorkshireman, with many Bluebirds fans picking up on a recent clip that appeared to show the midfielder talking tactics with McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor during the win at Bristol City last weekend.

Despite the player being restricted to a role from the bench, it's clear he still carries a certain level of influence within the Cardiff dressing room right now, and McCarthy had nothing but praise for the midfielder when discussing his possible options for this weekend.

McCarthy added: "I gave Marlon Pack a real pat on the back because he's not been in my starting line-up yet and he's trained brilliantly.

"When he was needed, he came on today. I love that about players. He's not sulked. He's come on and done a great job. I know if Ralls is not fit for Saturday then Marlon will be perfect."

I thought personally Ralls had a mare and we played better when Pack went on for him, I don’t know what the big rave is about Ralls, he’s very average

I thought Ralls was a little bit anonymous last night, may have had something to do with the fact that Vaulks was running around like a banshee mind .
