HOW IS EX-CARDIFF CITY MANAGER MALKY MACKAY GETTING ON THESE DAYS?
By Ben Wignall

Despite only being there for two-and-a-half years, Malky Mackay was one of Cardiff’s most successful managers and got them to heights they’d never reached before.

Joining the Bluebirds from Watford in the summer of 2011, Mackay managed to guide his new side to the League Cup final in his first season, only narrowly going down to Premier League giants Liverpool in the final on penalties.

And if Cardiff fans thought that was good, then they were about to be in dreamland as Mackay rallied the troops in the 2012/13 season and led the team into the Premier League for the first time ever.

Things did sour though eventually between Mackay and Cardiff owner Vincent Tan, who publicly criticised the Scotsman on multiple occasions and eventually sacked him in December 2013 – and it’s a feud that was still going years later.

What has Mackay done since his Cardiff departure?

Well it’s been an interesting ride indeed…

Less than a year after his Cardiff sacking, Mackay was set to return to the work with Crystal Palace in the Premier League, but a dossier sent from the Bluebirds to the FA which included alleged discriminatory messages sent by the Scot and Iain Moody prevented him from being appointed at Selhurst Park.

Despite an ongoing investigation, Wigan Athletic appointed Mackay in November 2014 amid backlash from fans and organisations – and he lasted only 138 days at the DW Stadium before being sacked in April 2015 with the Latics in the relegation zone.

It wasn’t the greatest 18 months for Mackay, but his name was soon cleared in an FA investigation relating to the 2014 dossier and he was soon back on the up despite the fact he hasn’t actually took up a managerial role since his Wigan departure.

In December 2016, Mackay was appointed to a ‘performance director’ role by the Scottish FA, which meant he would oversee the development of the country’s top young stars.

He did though take charge of one match for the Scotland national team – a 1-0 defeat at home to the Netherlands in a friendly – Mackay then returned to the SFA role until just a few months ago, where he admitted that it felt like the ‘right time‘ to depart.

Will we see Mackay step back into a managerial role in the near future? It’s hard to say considering he’s been away from that kind of hands-on job for nearly six years, but at only 48 years old the former centre-back has time on his side to rebuild his reputation in that sphere.

alleged ?
they did not find him guilty as they deemed them private... not because there was any question regarding the content of texts themselves

Exactly, Malky was not found guilty of anything.

Tan spent £2mill of our clubs money on trying to find things and found nothing.

It’s funny how the Media are continually always having ago at our two most successful managers Malky Mackay & Neil Warnock.

Because they both fell out with Tan and only ever negative stuff is brought up.

They both achieved promotion and between them brought in over £400mill which the CCFC Committee have wasted beyond.

Sorry, I didn't put this up for mischief; lots of people have asked over recent times, so I thought it would enlighten :thumbright:

Malky our best manager in many a decade; and I place him (just) above Neil Warnock for that :ayatollah:

What he did next was vanish into obscurity.

Don't get me wrong, he did a great job for us but I would put Warnock head & shoulders above him.

I know you never Chris,

But it’s funny they want to continue hitting Malky, Tan and his followers, Yet it’s Malky who was very successful and it was Malky who brought in over £200mill to our club and its Tan and his committee who continue to lose us money in court cases, bad signings and the way our club is run.

Malky was a good manager for us - Got us to the promised land and let's not forget the Carling Cup Final in his time .

And yet he often gets a slagging on here. Thankyou MM for all your efforts. I hope one day you can walk on the pitch half time one more time with a fist pump

All about opinion, Neil ;)

I will never say Malky didn't bring about his own downfall but his 'successes' were for me better than Neil Warnock's and I very much appreciate both

What exactly is (quote) "complete bollocks" about that? :?

Malky being our best manager in a decade.

The money he had to spend we should have been better prepared for the premier league. Then the money he spent should have made a better fist of the premier league.

But correct all about opinions.

Certainly is, so your (quote) "complete bollocks" comment was simply your way of saying you didn't agree? ;)

I think we were 'prepared' for the Premier League and (sadly, we'll never actually know) I believe we were on course to stay there until he screwed it up for himself and by default us with his off-field misdemeanours

Makes him a disappointment in the end but prior to that it is my personal opinion that he was the more successful manager for us when you look at achievements

Others, clearly including your good self, will have a different view and that's fine

Surely, it's certainly not (quote again) "complete bollocks" to hold an alternate view on such a matter, is it...? :thumbright:

Funny Neil,

The famous Committee have been promoted twice and nothing each time in our club was preppy for the Prem, hmmmmm

And we’ve received over £400 mill from promotions but the committee have squandered virtually the lot.

Glad you're back fighting fit and keeping an eye out for you know who
Don't bother posting much as end up either being a Mr Tan fan / red brigade/ one of the usual Malkly/ Warnock bashers
Seems it's getting you can have an opinion as long as it follows the party line !!!

My mantra is.... I just support the club!!

Bring back Dave Jones and give him the millions that MM and NW had at their disposal and we would be an established premier league side by now.

Last time to give my opinion....
MM fecked it up for himself and when in the promised land his football was crap and way too defensive.
NW fair play got us up but perhaps it's only real fans that would ensure a 4 HR round trip to watch hoofball.
( As a great man once said " if they wanted to play football in the sky God would have put grass on the clouds )" or something like that. : ;)

Ta Ta.
