That’s what Murphy can do

And why we should persevere with him.

Was it also him that made a tackle in the box not long after our second goal?

It was definitely him who failed to beat his man on three occasions when 1 v 1 on the left.
Tbf it was a superb ball in.
Deffo pick Ojo over Murphy atm though.

For sure. Ojo is looking confident.

Tbh it’s good to have a few options now. I know he’s injured but this surely sends Hoillett down the pecking order.

Is ojo injured then after going off early.

He did take a knock and had treatment so I’m guessing he is. Can’t be too bad tho as he played 10 mins of second half and walked off ok.

Murphy is not consistent enough to replace Wilson or Ojo.

It was a great cross last night but we’ve always known he can produce that, he needs to do it consistently before we can talk about him starting.

Obviously he is still low on confidence and 'beating' a man is a confidence thing.

I think though that MM can help him with his confidence, so the beating a man thing will come.

He did well at both ends of the pitch though, it was a delightful cross to pick out Bennett, in awful conditions, and he made quite a few defensive challenges / tackles which were critical in keeping Rotherham at bay. I think it suits him not playing as an out-and-out winger. His last season ay Norwich he was playing more freely and making runs behind and was very effective.

As the OP said, it's worth sticking with him and bringing him on and see where it goes. Maybe he can regain form and confidence and add some consistency to his game and be a starter.

I seriously can’t remember the last time I saw him beat a man though.
He’s so easily shrugged off the ball it’s sometimes embarrassing.
We surely can’t keep giving him chances imo as he’s nowhere near consistent enough.

Barnsley away...he changed the game mate.... prior to that he really did not get much game time off Harris..

There’s a great post on ‘should we bid for Ojo’ thread that pretty much sums the situation up for me mate.
We’ll see how he does from the start if Ojo is injured and he gets his chance but I wouldn’t hold my breath as he’s started before after a ‘flash’ when coming on as sub. He’s not taken the chances he’s had and more importantly, not looked as if he’s bothered on occasions.

He has probably won us a fair few points this season despite being underplayed and apparently shit.

I wouldn't pay murphy in old fag nips he's dogshit. What did he cost us 10million odd or around that and he crossed a ball for a goal. The blokes robbing a living as a footballer in my opinion. Gone are the days where a wide player skins a fullback, gets to the byeline and crosses it in now it's all back pass shite or hoof and hope.

Not a million miles away from the pass from Alexander-Arnold (I think) to Sala a week or two ago...

Was class from Murphy and class from the oft-maligned (including by me) Bennett, too! :notworthy: :ayatollah:

Bennett is really thriving as a wing back.

Although could do without criticism when a goal comes from his side as I saw earlier on here.

If he’s a wing back he needs support at the back.

I agree and playing regularly at WB, he will get better and better IMO. I see NG as more of an out and out full back (and a good one at that) and possibly this role may take a bit longer. He always manages to get a shot on goal every game though

NG never seems to give it away either. Always finds someone. Doesn’t panic.

Remember Peltier and the panic when he got the ball?

Yes I’ve noticed that he hits a good ball.

Hoping the players are reading that and show Josh this.

Looks a different player.

Consistency is key.

True mate. Consistency is the key now. Good problem for MM to have now but Murphy is the man with the shirt atm and it’s up to him to keep it.

This system suits him.

I've never seen Murphy as a LM or RM. He could do it but just not got the discipline.

However, played further forward with less responsibility he is excellent. Easily a 10 goal-a-season player at least and provides quality assists at times.

Me too 62, I have slated Murphy, but did say he would also be given praise in equal amounts, when he plays like he has last few games.
Now lets see if he can get that consistency needed.but well done Murph.CCFC.
