Effing Callum Paterson

Loved that guy. Why did we get rid of him again?

There were plenty on here happy with that.

Was the only way we could bring in Moore. I liked Paterson a lot and good luck to him. However i know who id prefer to have out the two.

we did not sell Patto for nearly 2 months after we had bought Moore...

I liked him, had some passion in him, never gave up,ran himself into the ground and scored some important goals.

Re: Effing Callum Paterson

We don't need him with all the right back and striker options we have.

Pity some of our players did not have his fight

Re: Effing Callum Paterson

So where exactly would Paterson play in this team?

In place of Moore, Wilson, etc. Paterson, to be fair, would not sit around on the bench therefore had to go.

I just don’t get this. Moore has scored 10 goals in half a season whilst missing a fair few games. Paterson might have been top scorer but didn’t get into double fingers in full seasons !!

And before anyone says, he can’t play anywhere else ! He was tried at full back, midfield and No. 10 and it just didn’t work.

There have been some poor transfer dealings but this wasn’t one of them.

Good summary and it’s how I see it.

Everybody liked to watch his far arse running around chasing players but he had to move on.

Hopefully over time we’ll get a new manager in the summer and start to play a more modern, fast passing football game where he definitely won’t be needed .......... well I can dream!

Because in a squad of clumpers, he was chief clumper.....

I agree with Bellamy, our fans will never accept a transition of style. We have always preferred guts and glory rugby flanker type to a skilled player, and Paterson is the epitome of that.

He is a blunt tool when you needed a blunt tool. The problem for us is we have a toolbox full of blunt tools

Agree, but a very likeable blunt tool.

Surely sometime soon we have to progress and start a transition of style.
Bellamy, for me, would be given that time more than most if we could only transgress that way in the summer.

Buy early, sell late. That's how business should be done. The alternative is to sell late and then be scrambling around for replacements.

i was answering a post...if buying one thing is dependent on selling another ....you have to sell first...not just football all things....

Not really. If funds are available you don't need to sell first. The original post was correct anyway. We bought Moore and then offloaded paterson and etheridge to balance the books of the initial transfer, which allowed us to bring him in. We would have missed out on the transfer if we waited to sell players first.

He had that amazing ability of being able to put that ball in net when played in the coreect position. He was natural finisher!!!

Could have Moore and Patterson upfront with a no 10 behind. Poor call that transfer,ffs..

Re: Effing Callum Paterson

Wed Feb 03, 2021 3:58 pm

Every single week, and I'm not exaggerating here, every single week he played last season, the match threads always had multiple posts about what a poor player he was.

Common complaints were his complete lack of technical ability, that all he did was run around like a headless chicken, and how he didn't get nearly enough goals to be our front man. Nobody really had anything good to say apart from he seemed like a good lad and "put a shift in".

Is this a case of this forum exaggerating how bad his performances were and not taking into account the tactics of the team relative to his position? (Just like how we currently talk about Glatzel, so don't be surprised if he goes on a scoring run when he leaves and we constantly see threads similar to this one).

Or maybe it's that when a player doesn't play for us for a while, they somehow become better and better in our minds. (Everyone hyping Bacuna at CM, people saying Murphy should be starting when he hasn't seen the pitch in weeks).

I think it's somewhere in the middle.

21 goals in 106 games is hardly a stellar record. His best season was 10 goals in 35 games, last season it was 7 in 42. Moore is currently on 10 in 22.

If selling Paterson was needed to balance the books for signing Moore I would say it was a good move. Obviously we have no idea how he would've managed this season but he's not set the world alight at Sheffield, 6 goals in 25 games.

As a character and a presence on the pitch he was probably unmatched in our team, as a goalscorer he was decent but nothing more.

How are people using goals as Patterson played midfield the season we went up and he is a right back.

All I know is we ended up getting rid of Glatzel anyway and he should have went instead of patterson as the only fact
i know is without him changing from right back to midfielder helped us get promoted then changed to striker and scored
some very important goals that stopped us being relegated from the premiership by Xmas like Fulham was.

A terrible sale by the club and Harris (who denied it) of all the players we could have sold to get Moore as 300 grand lets hope
he doesnt come back to haunt us

I'm using goals as a metric as Blue Lagoon was singing praises about his finishing and talking about Paterson playing in a front 2. Yes in actuality Paterson spent most of his time in a sort of CAM role with the occasional stint as a forward. I loved Paterson's time here, he was one of my favourite players in our promotion squad but if it's a choice between Moore or Paterson then I'd choose Moore.

The only reason Paterson was so popular was because he was a lunatic and put himself about. He is not a quality championship striker nowhere near

Loved the lad , with Moore in where do you play a poor right back , he's not a winger or midfielder either ?

Exactly. People have such short memories. He signed at the start of our promotion season but due to an injury he didn't start playing for us until about November and I don't think he played up front once in our promotion season. Despite that he still managed to be one of our top scorers and was a crucial member of that side. He had an uncanny knack of being in the right place to score vital goals. To listen to some people on this forum you would think he was a lump of lard who couldn't get off the ground. He was actually the second quickest player on the books behind only marginaly behind NML.

strangely enough we had this habit of winning when he started.. 50% last season, the highest of any Cardiff City player....

I keep asking myself mate, we need to ask the people running the club, looks like they are clearing all the squad out at this rate.

That's probably because he ran around like a lunatic and scared defenders to death having a lunatic amongst them! Certainly wasnt for his goals or assists that we won half our games he played in.. :old:

yes closing down with effect is very important when playing a team sport that entails your team being without possession at least half the time.... but im sure he was top goal scorer in a promotion winning team ..wins lots of challenges headers and made interceptions..
