Gareth Bale looks finished

Sun Jan 31, 2021 8:56 pm

He started for Spurs at Brighton tonight before being substituted.

Another poor performance from him.

Looks like he's done.

He also hasn't done enough to be called up to play for Wales.

Can't remember the last time he even looked close to his former self.

I thought that for a while mate. He’s a player who relies so much on his pace and power and unfortunately they seem to have deserted him.

Bale is at crossroads now,Needs game time to recover his true form, without getting his form back,he ain’t getting much game time, moving back to Spurs ain’t worked out,and not wanted at Madrid, think a move to the mls is the only option he ll have in the summer

Agree a move to an easier league

It's very sad to see him just not able to deliver.
And Mourinho holds him in high regard and in fairness has put his arm round him.

It's because of whats gone on at Madrid. We may never know what happened but you cant go out on the pitch after a fight behind the scenes with Zidane.

He’s got little to no affiliation to Cardiff City plus he’s too greedy to drop his massive salary.

I was laughing last night when Jamie Redknapp kept calling him world class!
That ship has sailed a few years ago.

I’ve watched his appearances since he’s been back at Spurs and he’s been very poor each time. Strolls around like he doesn’t care and just passes the ball simply with no attacking flair or intention whatsoever.

Father time catches up with us all (apart from Ronaldo)

He was a precocious teenager so has played a lot of top flight football.

His physique and power made him perfect for the premier league and he did well in Spain, but once you lose that 1% it leads to 5% which then goes onto 20% and he is a normal footballer again.

He'll be an old fashioned 32 year old, gone at the game. But unlike the old days, he won't drop down the leagues.

I believe he has another year at Madrid, there'll need to pay him up as he is getting nowhere near the first team, no one is going to buy him, and his salary is obscene.

This appears to be true; but I do wonder if his long lay-off at Madrid has had a detrimental effect on both his game and his mentality?

Mourinho does seem to want to help but at some point Gareth has to put a shift in. He hasn't so far and last night showed what a current gulf in class there is between a Spurs side with him in it and one with Kane

Still good enough for Wales?

I agree, not in current form; but then again, who would take his place and show even a glimmer of the sparkle he might occasionally provide?

I also agree that he is highly unlikely to come to the CCS (has he ever even hinted at it?) for the reasons stated; and the infamous flag seems to sum up his priorities, so I'm guessing a summer at the Euros for Wales and then another year on the golf courses of Madrid for him

i said just before he was confirmed as a spurs player, he should of gone to america, where its warmer and an easier league, his legs have gone, too many injuries, and i was shot down.

sad truth is, the best of gareth bale has come and gone, hes still a good player, but nowhere near the level he was once at. regardless of if hes done enough to earn a place in the welsh squad, surely he has to go anyways. his influence both on and off the field will be huge, even if he plays poorly, the opposition will sacrifice players to mark him, freeing up space elsehwere

Watched the game last night and he looked washed up god knows where he goes from here. I doubt if he could hold his own in the Championship seems to have no desire.

Well from here (or Spurs) he goes back to Real Madrid on his 6 trillion euros a week!
He’ll probably see out his final year in the sun playing golf and playing the odd sub appearance.

If Zidane goes which is likely (and certain in non-covid times) then there’s an outside chance he’ll play a bit more.

sort of agree...he should certainly go to the EUROS.. and maybe people will double him.. the more performances like last night the less likely teams will do that though...

If his pace has gone, I'd like to see him retrain as a 9 :bluescarf: great in the air. Good finisher. Needs to want it though and start getting more physical

It would be difficult to tell - he barely broke into a trot last night.

HOW TO GET THE BEST OUT OF BALE

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp tells Sky Sports News:

"He’s hardly had a chance, to be fair to him. He didn’t play well against Brighton, but who did? He was no worse than anyone else.

"He can play, again. You’ve got to know Gareth. As great a player as he has been, he was in the top five players in the world when I had him and he went to Real Madrid. He’s not an overconfident person.

"You’ve got to get into him, tell him how good he is, get him out on the training ground, put a dummy against him, get the worst player you’ve got to defend against him, and keep giving Gareth the ball.

"Tell him you’re going great, I want to get you going. He can play, he’s a fantastic talent. He’s only 31, he doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, has he lost his pace? He’s not had a run yet.

"If the team was playing well and Kane was on fire, he’s on form with Son, what a forward line that could be. Jose’s a top manager, it’s his job to get the best out of these players. They’re bringing people on in front of Gareth Bale who couldn’t lace his boots."

I don't know what you lot are all watching.

The Spurs team was awful, nobody looked any good in that game. Moura came on for him and did nothing.

Mourinho isn't helping him, he's mugging him off. Bale clearly needs a run of games in the side to build his confidence. He starts in the FA cup, looks good, gets a goal.

Next game agaisnt Liverpool, he starts Bergwijn instead of Bale who's done nothing this season. Kane comes off at half time, Mourinho puts on Lamela before him (who does f**k all). Bale must have the hump with that. He comes on with 10 minutes left and the game has gone.

Starts him agaisnt Brighton. He's not brilliant, but not awful. Subs him after 60 minutes. Post match interview Mourinho is talking about how good Spurs were in the last 30 minutes. They weren't, they were shit but it's a way to have a pop at Bale.

Mourinho is working against him, not helping him at all.

I'm not sure if Bale still has it but he needs a run of games before anyone can fairly judge.

it was all Zidanes fault and now Mourinhos...both these saw him every day in training and both their jobs are dependent on winning games and picking their best teams not just giving people runs in teams ... in Mourinhos case he has taken a gamble by giving Gareth an out when no one else was interested so its massively in his interests for the loan to work...im afraid its down to Gareth to either show his worth by performing if and when the opportunities arise..

He should be given the chance to build confidence and prove himself. It's not like they've got someone ahead of him who's doing the business.

should ? i do all the Wales home games and most of the aways.. and tbh only watched the Spurs game out of hope there was a bit of the old GB there. there wasnt....and you can not be expecting Spurs to just give him a run for our sakes...£ 30 million its costing them to have him there this season , he is and has always been well thought of by both manager and club... so i proper do not get the its mourinhos fault.... its either he does enough to start forcing himself into the team, or possibly is done... the later is not out of the question, he has had umpteen injuries and in my opinion has more than once pushed himself to play for his country when not fully recovered...
