What was the capacity at that time. Looks rammed, social distancing?

I remember getting my first football book in the 60's and The Valley at Charlton was given as the biggest club ground in the country, and Ninian Park, Villa Park and Goodison Park were given as the next biggest at 65,000. Funny how some things stick in your mind. I think the Valley was said to be 78,000.

Late 70s Charlton was 66,000 according to my Panini book.. was working down there last year and you can still see the old terrace footprint..same book had Ninian at 46,000 late 70’s, but then they chopped the Grange and Canton ..

I’ve got a book from the 80s called Football Grounds of England and Wales by Simon Inglis. He describes the Bob Bank as being the deepest length of pitch terrace in the FL. Charlton’s and Birmingham’s were higher, but didn’t have the depth of the Bob Bank. Around 50 yards from front to back.

Any idea when this picture was taken ? Looks like it could be pre 1960? No houses behind the grange end & no bob bank roof, shorter main stand so between 1947 & 1972 ?

What an incredible picture, certainly a unique ground. But as good as NP was, moving to the CCS was a move that was absolutely needed and has benefited us greatly. I think a lot of people look back on our time at NP in bluebird tinted glasses, the atmosphere could be just as dead as we've seen at the CCS and the financial benefits the new ground has offered have propelled us to our best average position since the 1950's/1960's :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

No arguments from anyone on the need to move from NO but reading this topic has sparked the old grey matter to life, for some of us older gents  memories that will never die, but let's hope to repeat those massive crowds someday. :ayatollah: :old: :bluebird:

I think this was the Wales v England match in 1961, I remember standing on the Bob bank at 1 15 with no one there at 3 o clock there were 61000 there and you could not move.

You are correct and my memory is wrong on the date, but I am certain I was at the match,it would be interesting to find out the exact date.

Bob Bank was always my favourite part of the stadium. Remember one game watching from the Grandstand and hating not being down there.
