Mick McCarthy insists it would be 'wrong' to comment

Sat Jan 30, 2021 6:17 pm

Mick McCarthy insists it would be 'wrong' to comment on speculation around Cardiff City's transfer business ahead of deadline day - amid links with Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes.

Saturday 30th January 2021

Reports emerged shortly before Cardiff's 1-1 draw with Millwall claiming City had made an approach for Rhodes, who was linked around this time last year with a move to the Welsh capital.

McCarthy has previously insisted that he's happy with the squad already at his disposal, although he's stopped short of ruling out any transfer business.

MICK McCARTHY:

"It's the question everyone wants to ask," he responded when asked about potential business.

"No manager is going to tell anybody anyway if there is some business going on. Actually, there's not a great deal with us, but if we can do something then we will.

"I sometimes find it a little bit insulting to the squad that we have.

"We've got some good players ourselves and we'll get the best tune we can out of the ones we have."

And when pressed specifically on the speculation around Rhodes, the City boss added: "I wouldn't comment on any transfer news as it might compromise any deal. I wouldn't comment on anything.

"So you can take that whether I am or I'm not.

"But I wouldn't tell anybody anyway because it's just wrong. It's wrong for the players we have in the building. It's wrong for the two clubs involved.

"I fully understand you asking though.

Asked if a striker might be high on his wishlist, the Yorkshireman once again played the straightest of straight bats.

"I wouldn't comment on that," he added. "We could be here a long time. I hope you're not sat outside!

"I'm not going to comment, it's just wrong to do it."

He's got a point, he's not going to reveal he whole transfer strategy to the press.

Tony (aka Topcat) will be delighted if we sign Jordan Rhodes.

At least it is not another centre half, but he probably is slower than all ours.

Maybe time for Glatzel to go on loan or go home and swap with Rhodes. Cant be any worse. Glatzel looked very low on confidence today.

Would welcome Jordan Rhodes but there were also whispers on pre-match radio that were could be in for Charlie Austin

Not too sure about that one, if anything in it, as he looked a little jaded against us recently

Has Rhodes done anything recently? There was a time it felt he was scoring two goals a game, but didn’t even realise he was still playing!

I’m not sure this is a priority though - we need a midfielder who can control the game and drive at teams. Bacuna was good today but need more in there.

Apparently we have made a enquiry to Crystal Palace about a player.

Possibly a midfielder

Chris didn't Charlie Austin join QPR on loan for the remainder of the 2020–21 season.?

Cardiff City are eyeing a late push for Charlton Athletic and Wales Jonny Williams

Don't dislike mick our new manager but this is the problem with the older generation of mangers they pick up the older plays that they have recognised over the years of managment
Like warnock picking up older flint pack etc
Swans manager is not interested in picking up old players on the whole that have been around the block
he wants youngsters
This was my only fear of an old school manager.

well we havent signed anyone under MM yet..
but the 2 players we have signed in this window have been 24 and 21 years of age
they on the other hand have brought a 30 year old in on loan.

SKIDEMIN

They where arris signings not micks buddy
Like i just said about the swans manager would not sign 30 plus players they have just signed a 20 year old striker
Which was my point about the older managers.

Who thought you meant crawley town sorry buddy
but if you mean the swans on the whole
they are a very young team which is my point with manager with a young squad and thats why they are 2nd in the table and we have an ageing squad and are pushung for the bottom surely there is a young defender we could find instead of having flint back in defence
and 30 year old plus strikers

Hourihane! until end season good player but not what we needed ... if get Williams can see Wilson going back as Tomlin be back and cant have both in team where as Williams box to box aggressive midfielder which we need.

Cooper has been a shrewd pick...and has a fantastic knowledge of the age groups he is generally recruiting because he worked in those age groups...its worked for them but many were completely underwhelmed at his appointment just as we would have been here...

PEMBROKE ALLAn

Would be happy with j ester simply because we are so poor in mid field and he would offer more than what we have
but on the whole we need to rebuild like down the rd have done with a young dynamic squad
but its a big rebuild for us so bringing in older players along with the oldies we have makes the rebuild a lot harder thats all i am saying
and the older mangers tend to go with recognised players they have been around for years.

I’d do the deal if it was for both Rhodes and Bannan (Coming to end of his contract)

Yes its getting balance right? Cannot see Morrison flint here next season well not 1st choice so expect age of squad reducing by quite a bit... but it as been made harder by previous managers thing for older players....
