By Chris Gallagher Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that he wants a new right-back at the club before the transfer deadline shuts.

Even though the Welsh side recently completed the signing of Perry Ng from Crewe, the new recruit is actually the only available senior player for that position.
So, whilst McCarthy is impressed with the bit of business that Neil Harris did in bringing the player to the club, he made it clear that finding competition for Ng is a priority.
“The only position that we’ve not got much strength in depth is at right-back, because we’ve just got Perry. We don’t have too much cover there,” he told Wales Online.
“But Perry’s been great. I’m delighted with him. I think he’s a good signing.”The update also reveals that McCarthy has cooled on the idea of signing another centre-back, despite initially thinking he would need to strengthen that department in the coming days.
The former Ireland is just settling in as the Bluebird boss, as he prepares for his first home game in charge against former club Millwall this afternoon.
The verdictThe injury to Jordi Osei-Tutu has meant that right-back has been something of a problem position for Cardiff this season, with Juninho Bacuna filling in on many occasions.
McCarthy doesn’t want to do that, so whilst Ng was a smart addition, you can’t have just one right-back at the club.
So, finding a low-cost backup to the new signing appears to be a priority, and it will be interesting to see what business is done by Cardiff.
