29 days and it's all fallen apart

Fri Jan 29, 2021 7:43 pm

Just 29 days after the infamous Brexit data the EU have undermined the whole lot and show their true colours.
Theyve stopped any export of the vaccine to non EU countries. Northern Ireland would have been allowed to get a vaccine delivery but the EU just invoked article 16 citing special circumstances etc etc.

The irony is laughable , the EU seemed to always insist it would be us who would initiate article 16. 4 years of negotiation seemingly gone up on smoke in 29 days. The EU dont have a leg to stand re getting us to send the vaccine. They whole hearterly screwed up by not putting their money where their mouth was. 3 months late and it seems they have made to same mistake with the latest vax as well.

going to get a bit messy it seems. Especially if PZ and AZ refuse to send vac to the EU. They know we will sue them fro breach of contract. A contract that we have actually already paid for.

The European Union has confirmed it is introducing export controls on coronavirus vaccines made in the bloc, amid a row about delivery shortfalls.

The so-called transparency mechanism gives EU countries powers to deny authorisation for vaccine exports if the company making them hasn't honoured existing contracts with the EU.

"The protection and safety of our citizens is a priority and the challenges we now face left us with no choice but to act," the European Commission said.

The controls will affect some 100 countries worldwide - including the UK, the US, Canada and Australia - but many others, including poorer nations, are exempt.

Britain on Friday expressed its "concern" after the EU also suspended terms of the Brexit deal allowing goods to flow across the Irish border.

The EU insists its controls are a temporary scheme, not an export ban. But the World Health Organization is among those criticising the move, saying it could have a knock-on effect around the world.

Yes its temporary until they sort out their incompetence? and will do it again probably when have further problems as the other vaccines they've ordered are not ready until later in year.... they ballsed up their vaccine procurement pure and simple.

Surely the vax companies have been told by us, that a breach of contract will land them in court. It seems that the vax companies are willing and able to fulfill the order which we paid for.

The EU supply chain isnt in place anyway , so delay will not help them.

What happens if the EU take Vax companies to court and win (which they wont) - what court has the ultimate decision? - as we are not in the EU anymore - then the EU have no jurisdiction over the UK and a private global company that happens to have an office in Belgium. Seems like jumped up charges. Maybe when their order is ready we could something similar to them. They need to realise we arent there to be dictated to anymore. So the bullying will have zero affect.

Should be an interesting few days, how about we stop the supply of daily from the republic of ireland into the north as we suspect it's become infected with salmonella ? Dublin wont be happy :laughing6:

They have now joined the U - TURN Gang which seems to be happening more and more these days .....

The EU has reversed its decision to temporarily override part of the Brexit deal amid an ongoing row over Covid vaccine supplies.

In a statement, the EU Commission said it would ensure the Northern Ireland Protocol is "unaffected".

Boris Johnson had called on the bloc to "urgently clarify its intentions" over the move.

The EU had said it would trigger a clause to introduce export controls on vaccines to Northern Ireland.

Under the Brexit deal, all products should be exported from the EU to NI without checks.

EU showing its true colours. Incompetently slow and self righteous and served by army of eurocrats who think thousands of pages of legal mumbo jumbo is the real world.

At least we now know why the remainers said it would take 5 years to get a trade agreement. It would take 3 months and 20 fully expensed lunches to buy a box of aspirin.

I found particularly interesting, the disclosure that Hancock was determined that Oxford University couldn't tie up with American company Merck, without written assurance they wouldn't prioritise America. The remainers have been telling us for years that the Tory party were trying to give the NHS to the Americans. Always was unsubstantiated bollux.

To be honest the NI Article 16 move by the EU was a ridiculous and nothing than moronic showboating. There was never going to be spare vaccines in the ROI to divert north anyway. If anything the reverse is the case. The real issue, is the outrageous attempt to requisition the supply to the UK. I note the BBC are quickly consigning the whole story to history though, its going to last about a tenth of the time that bloke got in his car and drove to Durham.
