I’m not sure I said I wanted more from him in training. He’s done very well. He’s trained this morning with the lads. I’ve been really pleased with his response. I can see his quality as with Josh Murphy. They have to get into the team. No one’s got a gilt-edged right to play.

There’s expectations on every player when you sign a contract with Cardiff City. When you come on loan, it’s almost like ‘they’re from LIverpool and they have to play’. I don’t know what he’s done prior to that. I picked the team on two days of training.

I fully understand and I know all of Harry’s qualities.

Everyone’s the same. It makes it sound like I’m isolating Harry and I’m not.

Is it down to the player or manager to get the best out of a talent like that.

It’s a bit of both. I’m here until May 8. Harry is a good player. Is it my job how to teach them how to play well at football or play well in a team. I’d say it’s the latter. I’m certainly not teaching Harry how to play football. I’ve seen him play in this league.

Every player, whether they're on loan from an elite club or not, has to earn their right to play.

Some people have been talking as if Harry Wilson has been in outstanding form all season.

When things haven't been going well recently, he's been practically invisible.

I noticed last season that when it was clear Bournemouth were in a relegation battle, Wilson was mostly on the bench. Maybe he doesn't have the fight in him.

That's clear and others need to open their eyes...

I remember Rooney doing some punditry on sky once saying sometimes sir Alex would drop him or make an example of him in the dressing room when he was actually trying to make a point to other players. Maybe there’s a bit of that with mick. He’s come in to a team of players who are down and coasting a bit and he’s tried to shock them into action by dropping and criticising one of the best players.

My biggest take from this interview is MM saying "I'm here until May 8th".
