Carlton Palmer warns Owls against Josh Murphy signing
Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer has urged the club against signing Cardiff City's Josh Murphy.
The Owls, along with Derby County and Nottingham Forest, were linked with a loan swoop for the Bluebirds winger earlier this month, with our sister title YorkshireLive stating they had made contact with the player's representatives around Christmas time.
Murphy is hoping for a fresh start under McCarthy at Cardiff, having underdelivered since his £11m move from Norwich City back in the summer of 2018.
But his first appearance under the new boss was impressive, including an assist for Sheyi Ojo, in the 2-2 draw with Barnsley.
Despite his clear talent, notwithstanding his inconsistencies of course, Palmer warned his old club against a move for Murphy, telling them to set their sights higher.
“Why would you take a player from a fellow Championship side that is not playing? They are mid-table. Cardiff are around 14th or 15th position and he’s not playing in their side," he told Football Fancast.
“So if you can’t get in their side, why would you take him to Sheffield Wednesday? I just don’t get it.
“I think they need a better calibre of players.”

Why would Wales Online report on the opinion of some largely forgotten Wednesday and Wimbledon player with no relevance to our area or Wales in general. They shouldn’t I believe - this is an example of why their reporting is often rubbish.

Regret my mistake - the now 55 year old Palmer never played for Wimbledon.

Not exactly a bright spark Carlton is he?
Josh Murphy may not be quite good enough to start for a "mid table team" sitting in 15th place but would probably be more than good enough to start for a "bottom of the table" club who are currently in 23rd place, 11 points behind Cardiff.
Maybe he should stick to doing that funny dance he does on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
