Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy told BBC Sport Wales:

Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy told BBC Sport Wales:

“I picked the team based on what I had seen in training.”

"I'm delighted with the point today. We can all learn a little bit from a committed and determined Barnsley.

"The way we came back and responded, I'd say we fought fire with fire.

"We will only succeed together, and we showed a real willingness tonight to get a point out of the game. Hopefully the result will give them a shot of confidence.

"There are parts of the game that Barnsley dominated, but I have to give my players real credit for fighting back.

"It was such a tough game and they all had to stand up to it. We scrapped out a really good point today."

MICK McCARTHY:

"I picked the team based on what I saw in training over two days. They have got to impress me there," McCarthy said after the 2-2 draw.

"The ones who impressed me were Junior and Sheyi Ojo, the two of them were different class in training.

"Everybody gets so surprised that Harry's not playing and Murph's [Josh Murphy] not playing, so what? We've got a good squad of players.

"I did say to Murph, 'Look, you're not playing, but what I don't want is you sat on the bench, coming on, sulking.

"He's come on and he's made an impact today. So that's brilliant, that's progress for him and progress for us. That was the reason."

When asked if Harry needed to step up in training and be in his thoughts for this weekend's clash with Millwall and after, McCarthy responded: "Absolutely!

"I'm sorry, did I come to a club where there was some gilt-edged positions for players? Because nobody told me and that ain't going to happen, ever.

It was a woeful performance..1st half as bad as anything I have seen in years

2nd half we showed enough fighting spirit to somehow grab a point

MM is an experienced manager and will have learnt a lot from that.

I fully expect 2/3 changes and a better performance on the weekend

Second half was a lot better, showed some guts to get back in it. Man City would struggle to put a few passes together on that pitch mind, it was diabolical & as bad as anything seen at Blackpool over recent years

I was happy with the appointment and I still am but that performance last night was absolutely awful. Worse than under Harris first half. The players weren’t even trying to play football just lump it anywhere you can and hope keiffer can win it. Fair play second half we fought back but still we didn’t play well. The dropping of Wilson was fine but not bringing him on when chasing the game was stupid, cutting nose off to spite face. Judging from his interview afterwards he sees Wilson as a winger not a number 10 which is frustrating. More than happy to give him time but my enthusiasm for his appointment did take a battering last night

Hopefully we played that way because of the pitch and we might get it down a bit more on Saturday. Also can’t shake this feeling Wilson might be recalled by liverpool and loaned out elsewhere. Probably won’t happen but he doesn’t look happy at the moment even before yesterday and liverpool want to sell him in the summer and his price is only dropping here. If mick doesn’t pick him tan might ask what he’s paying all these wages for

Don't think MM would want that. Wilson can play out wide or just behind the striker, which are position we are light on. Think it was a kick up the ass and seeing how players will respond to being on the bench. Plus, that pitch was awful so even Barnsley who prefer to pass the ball on the floor were avoiding doing so. Noticed a few occasion where we picked the right pass but the terf took all the zip out of it. So might not have been a great game for ball playing players anyhow.

Starting to like MM already head and shoulders above NH we should see a lot of changes and improvements within time up the city and I’m now 100 per cent behind MM

This makes it sound like you think it's Mick McCarthy's fault when it was the first half of his first game in charge

He came, he saw, he changed and got a rather unlikely result art a tough ground to play right now

Without shadow of doubt the team will change for the Millwall game and it will probably change again for the following game and so on, as Mick McCarthy susses out his squad and his team over the coming weeks

For me, it bodes well and I am already hoping the manager will earn himself an extension to his contract rather than like some (not necessarily you) hoping he fails because he wasn't most people's first choice

Chris what people forget is Leicester team that won premier league was mostly his players! He kept them up when all was lost previous year so MM knows how to change team and pick best players for job in hand so expect get extension to see what he can achieve next season as this one as been written off and hopefully he will get rid of the plenty of dead wood we have and bring in fresh younger players for start next season!
