MY VIEW: BIG MICK SHOWS THE GRIT & NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE A

Wed Jan 27, 2021 8:55 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

BIG MICK SHOWS THE GRIT & NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE AS POOR CITY'S FIRST-HALF / BECAME FIGHT BACK CITY SECOND-HALF :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

BIG MICK McCARTHY'S FIRST MATCH IN CHARGE OF THE SLEEPING GIANT CARDIFF CITY, WHICH BEFORE TODAY WAS A LIKE A SINKING SHIP.

BIG MICK STOPS THE ROT / AFTER 6 DEFEATS UNDER HARRIS.

Big Mick needs to time to asses the players.
Could be a few more out and in by the end of the window.

The way we played these players need to take some responsibility as the first-half they were dire.

The pitch was horrific

Big Mick made 4 changes tonight.

Aden Flint came straight into the starting lineup.

Sean Morrison was dropped to the bench, was not well this morning.

Harry Wilson was also dropped from the starting lineup for the first time this season, the Liverpool loanee had to take his place on the bench, too.

Joe Bennett injured.

Big Micks first match for Cardiff was away to Barnsley where Mick was born.

Big Mick agreed that every match day squad at least two Academy players will be included.

Academy striker Isaak Davies named on the bench tonight. A great night for him & Tom Sang. :bluebird: :bluebird:

First-half: Dire from both sides, awful football, but Barnsley deserved the lead, maybe even by more
Not a shot on target
This was for me the worst football seen in years

Second-Half: 2nil down & a fighting comeback by City to make it 2-2.

Bringing on Josh Murphy for me changed the game :bluebird: :bluebird:

BARNSLEY 2 CARDIFF CITY 2 :bluebird: :bluebird:
H-T 1-0

Cardiff City: Smithies; Ng, Flint, Nelson, Bagan; Ralls, Vaulks, Bacuna; Ojo, Moore, Hoilett.

Subs: Phillips, Morrison, Sang, Pack, Wilson, Murphy, Harris, Davies, Glatzel.

City had a terrible start, with our players all over the place in the defence, making horrible mistakes and bang Barnsley scored, but thankfully disallowed, foul :bluebird: :bluebird:

20th min Barnsley 1-0 Cardiff City (Andersen 20)

Frieser drilled a cross in and Andersen nodded in at the back post, City players opened up.
Flint lost his man

Not a shot on target

Dire from both sides, awful football, but Barnsley deserved their lead, may be by even more

H-T 1-0

Poor football by Cardiff and poor start.

Josh Murphy came on for Hoilett.

Barnsley 2-0 Cardiff City (Woodrow 52)
Mowatt delivered the free-kick and Woodrow climbed above Bagan to head home. Way way too easy.
Aerial threat undoes for Cardiff again.

Barnsley 2-1 Cardiff City (Ojo 58) :bluebird:
Ojo gets one back!

Josh Murphy drilled a low shot towards goal and Ojo sticks a leg out and turns it home! :bluebird:

Barnsley 2-2 Cardiff City (Kieffer Moore 69) :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Ralls put one to the back post and Moore rises above four or five markers and heads home! :bluebird: :bluebird:

It then became a fighting Cardiff City team and fully deserved to get back in the game to 2-2 :bluebird: :bluebird:

Bringing on Josh Murphy for me changed the game :bluebird: :bluebird:

The pitches are horrific all around the country

Definitely a game for the purists.

Poor football.
Poor goals.
Poor pitch.
Poor referee.

Could tell Mick was judging the players. Simple tactics but wants to see effort.

Murphy, Vaulks, Ng, Moore, Ojo come out with positives.

Hoilett, Bacuna, Flint not so great.

Nice to hear a manager barking orders though. He'll come good.

After the run of defeats, it was crucial not to lose today and we didn't :thumbright:

Barnsley are having a good season, and I would have taken a point before kick off.

Definitely happy with a point after going 2-0 down.

Good to see the players battle to get a point.

I think now Millwall on Saturday is a match where we should get three points.

A decent start for Mick :bluebird:

Let’s forget the first half... :banghead:. How nice was it to see a bit of grit and determination in the second half? One would imagine the players must have had a, shall we say, stern talking to at half time.

Fairly impressed by Ng again this evening, looks like he could be a decent acquisition :bluescarf:.

I’m one of the few who was happy with mick taking over but my god that was awful. We had the plan of boot it up the pitch and hope keiffer wins it. We did well to battle back but that was even worse than Harris against a poor side.

With the state of the pitch, I thought I was watching a 1980’s match of the day game. A draw is an improvement, even if we did look like a league 1 side.

Wilson getting a kick up the arse perhaps benched

Parks pitch?

Having played all my life on parks pitches that pitch was like Wembley in June compared with Pontcanna, Ely Racecourse, etc.

Pitch was poor but it’s NO excuse, the football was the biggest crock of shite I’ve seen in a long time.

I am hoping he played Flint to see whether he needs to bring in another CB as he only has a week to decide, I don't understand why Nelson seems to go under the radar when it comes to criticism and he dropped Wilson because of the pitch and the way Barnsley play

I have to say I agree but will make allowances for it being his first game in charge. We could desperately do with another midfielder thought Bacuna being back would solve some of our problems there but he was terrible again. Battled hard though that is the best thing to take out of tonight but probably nothing more then that.

Absolutely terrible game, one of the worst I have ever witnessed

We showed some fighting spirit in the second half... apart from that it was dreadful

Murphy looked quite useful when he came on, Keiffer was Keiffer, Ojo did ok, NG and Bagan not bad

Hate to say it but a carbon copy of Harris first game 2-0 down come back to 2-2 hope it's not an omen

Although the football, especially the first half, was utterly dreadful it was refreshing to hear a vocal manager and one willing to make tactical and player changes early. Harris never did anything until 60 minutes. Today we hooked Hoilett for an excellent Murphy after 50 minutes and changed to three at the back. McCarthy showed some competence from the sidelines which was so sadly lacking under Harris.

BBC

The omens were also good for McCarthy in the sense that he had never lost against his former club in nine games as a manager, but Cardiff's form coming into this contest ranked among the worst in club history after six successive defeats.

Any point away from home is a good point coming from 2-0 down away home makes the point even better. Overall a terrible low quality football match but one thing stood out for me and that was MM had us getting the ball forward quickly and compared to watching NH teams like warp factor one. How often tonight did you see the ball go backwards or sideways compared to NH?

MM will have learned a lot tonight in particular our midfield who looked slow and ponderous compared to Barnsley and that must now be a priority before the window shuts. Both fullbacks had decent games but Murphy changed the game and I just wish he had continued that run instead of trying to pass, he had just one defender left who would have had to foul him to stop him.

Let's hope MM get can a tune out of JM because there is a real player in there just a player who needs lots of hugs and cuddles.

Murphy is head and shoulders above the rest of this circus. Over paid and playing at least 1 division above abilities.

Grit? Losing 2 nil hahhhaaaaaaa

The OP has it pretty bang on and Mick McCarthy made his mark tonight with a rare point of late

Sadly, Flint did himself no favours but a great show from others and Murphy in particular  :ayatollah:

Coming away with a point after being 2-0 down is always good but that was a shocking game of football. We were so poor in the first half and those goals were soft - as per. Didn't mick watch any our games playing 3 CMs like that!? It didnt work then and it won't work now. Hopefully thats lesson 1 learnt.

Take a few positives from the game though. NG doesn't look out of place at all in this league and Bagan (minus their 2nd goal) also looks like a good player. Murphy was excellent when he came on. Also Good to see a manager who is capable of making big decisions to change a game. He didn't shut up all game either! Take a point, stop the rot, but need to be better than that.

We desperately need a CM with a bit of pace and creativity as well as a better CB.

Kieffer Moore left his man go from the 1st goal, as he was near post with number 6 andersen for long throw, it went short, hoillet and bagan do nothing to stop the cross and Moore man drifts off to far post and gets free header.
Not flints man as stated in report, think he had a pretty solid game considering his 1st match back from injury.

Bagan at fault for 2nd prob shouldn't of been marking woodrow, well played Barnsley for sticking woodrow on a kid at the set piece.

Individual mistakes cost us again
