Because the gap between rich and poor is a gaping canyon. You are more likely to die in more deprived areas.
Yes, we drink too much, eat too much and many of us don't look after our weight/health as well
But the gap between the haves and have nots is too great.
Minimum wage should be increased to close the gap. Corporate greedwho chase profits!!!!!!!
The great reset is coming.

Many factors, living very close together sometimes in flats won't have helped, lower paid jobs potentially adding to the risk in being unable to work from home and having to work with the public, and maybe behaving less sensibly and putting themselves at greater risk?

Thankfully 95% of us ignore those FB conspiracy idiots, but it probably has caught out a few.

If it's a case between rich and poor. Then why have so many more black / SE asian been affected by it worse than others.
For example - the heart surgeon at the Heath who came out of retirement to help on the front line and later died of covid. He wasnt poor, lived on minimum wage etc.
Look at Lombardie in Italy they had it very bad - and most of them worked in the fashion industry with massive links to Chinese factories etc.
What about the elderly retired people in care homes - were they all poor as well. My partners nana is 87 in a care home, she had covid and survived, a friend of hers didnt, they were the same gender, roughly the same age and health etc.
If you are an over weight smoker with a crap diet - then you should have heard the warning signs last March and quit smoking , got fit and lost weight. If you didnt it would seemed you have a death wish - just like my old man - who wouldnt stop smoking and died young of a heart attack.
I know some people in the restaurant trade that in the the eat out to help out time scammed thousands of pounds putting receipts through on Mon-Tue-Wed rather than on the weekend when they served the food. Or my friends mate in Treorchy who got a bounce back loan, declared a dividend, bought a car - and then went 'bust'.
If you work in the public sector - you are laughing in terms of job security for now.
If you are a millionaire employer - then you will also be ok - as long as your cash to debt ratio is ok.
If you work in the private sector - you maybe struggling quite a bit - but at least you have furlough.
If like me I operate through my own Ltd company - then Im screwed. No financial help whatsoever as I dont qualify. Im one of the 3 million that fell through the gap. But A. I never moan about it B. I'm not jealous of other peoples money C. Just get on and adapt - live I have done.
I dont recall seeing the Global Pandemic / Virologist credentials of Conservatives / Labour / Lib Dems or SNP in the last election. The UK govt like all govts - sometimes they get things right other times wrong. As long as they realise this and then attempt something new - that is what matters. Some would call this a U turn - others a dynamic and agile methodology.
There are plenty of new graduates from the University of Hindsight.....

Completely agree. Mark Drakeford is an idiot.
He’s hardly an idiot, before entering politics he was a professor at Cardiff University and has written and had published several books! I’d much prefer him to Boris the Buffon a typical Eton public schoolboy completely out of touch with reality! The only idiots are the minority of people who don’t listen to him and don’t care for their fellow human beings and would rather believe social media nonsense!

Obviously some people are so devoted to their hatred of Boris Johnson they are incapable of seeing when someone is having a bit of a giggle.
But crack on. Tell me more about why you are prejudiced against him based on his schooling. You did bring up Eton after all. Lets also ignore that one of the people mentioned in this thread helped raise a nonce and a rapist. Bit you know. Boris is the devil
I guess the idiots must have ignored Boris too seeing as we basically have the same restrictions in place. Last time I was in England though I didn't see clear wrapping around the fiction books in Sainsburys. I guess only Welsh books spread Covid.

Thank you, Wolfie ap Smith
You answered your own question in your first paragraph and then went on another bitter rant that misunderstand the need for some to 'profit' in order for others to earn the wages you refer to
Not saying there shouldn't be a minimum wage (there should) but your grasp of reality is just a tad out of kilter to the facts...again!

You do know that the term 'Professor' is an unqualified term, you dont sit a 'professor' exam.
Mark Drakeford was a teacher, then packed it in for an easier as a lecturer where he lectured "Social and Administrative Studies" ....? he was there long to get promoted to senior lecturer , then people at the uni had a chat with him and thought he was so good 'social science' there would call him Prof. One of his many jobs at the WAG was Minister for Brexit ( a difficult job for someone who wanted remain).
He has never worked in the private sector, never run a business, never had to turn a profit or work out what he is going to do to manage to pay his staff wages. And then somehow he manages to find himself as First Minister, tis has all the hall marks of a new script for a Mr Bean movie.
He maybe like a nice old grampa - but a leader / strategist / public speaker he certainly isnt. But he does by his suits in the PDSA on cowbridge road thouh

Good point about him never really living in the real world, he's been in school all his life and he's running the Country the same way, just little lectures as if we are kids.

If only the very sick got tested then there would be no lockdowns and people could get on with their lives. The govt would have to then find another way to massage their figures

Much has been said on this Forum about Welsh Government being too cautious, as much as there are a variety of opinions on these, i think it is safe to say that Westminster (Boris) has constantly been too slow to react throughout the pandemic. We will never know the true impact of
1. a week too late into the first lockdown
2. the Summer "eatout scheme.
3. not following science in going for the 2nd lockdown in September/October
4. Not closing the UK borders
5. Poor Track and trace in the early days ( Its not much better in England now, however Wales does seem to be a lot better)
6. the new variant circulating from November onward
7. Returning Covid infected people from Hospital to Care homes
8. Lack of PPE in the first 6 months of pandemic.
9. Muddled messaging and constant u-turns from Westminster
10. Lack of clarity between all levels of government throughout the UK
The only positive I can see is the development and role out of vaccine

Easy to be wise after the event isn't it?
Welsh Labour have done nothing different other than open up too quickly after the firebreak, feck up the test and trace, and slow down the vaccines so the vaccinators had an even supply, resulting in unnecessary delays for the most vulnerable and health workers.
Of the list of mistakes the big ones are care homes and not locking down the borders, they would have had a big impact, but it's always easy with hindsight.

My point exactly, they missed their over 80's target by a long way and then Gethin and Drakeford blamed it on a day of snow saying weather conditions had effected the roll out - FFS. NHS Englang have done the over 80's and the vulnerable, they are now on and nearly finished the over 70's and the over 50's look likely to be done by March.
Meanwhile Drakeford is holding on to his supplies in case he runs out. The Professor of Social Administration is your typical local council red tape expert, Professor FeckAll needs to go and have a rest
If anyone thinks the Westminster was being too slow - REALLY... maybe they were BUT go and ask people in Germany / France / Italy if they think we were too slow? The rest of Europe is way way way behind us in terms of coming out of this, The UK govt got the Oxford / AZ vax and the Pfizer vax tested and approved and signed off before other countries as they did the testing in parallel. The UK govt also put the actual order in for the vax 3 months for the EU and specifically the EMA could even begin to start looking.
Whichever side of the debate you were on , being out of the EU and EMA means we are now quite a long way ahead in terms of getting out of this. The EU response was to threaten to stop the PZ vax being delivered (showing their true colours within a month of us leaving).
This whole saga has highlighted a few things. Drakeford and Gethin arent up to it. Kirsty Williams WAG Education Minister is so not up to it she has decided to jump off the WAG gravy train

Exactly
They need to get it going, vaccination at present is the only way out, and they are playing party politics, and blaming one inch of snow, that lasted only one day!

I would agree with the line of thought on Drakeford's contribution in this, he is not a good communicator and comes over as a bit of a drip. As a whole I dont think WG has generally performed any worse than Westminster, there are some things they have done really well and others badly. Drakefords statement about the vaccine was a massive own goal and pinning the missed target on the weather was not a cleaver move, however whilst Wales is behind England in the rollout of the vaccine they are ahead of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and the new infections rate is dropping quicker than the rest of the UK. So a mixed bag to say the least.

What do you think the WAG has done well in terms of their covid strategy ?
We came out lock down in November after 2 weeks (that felt too early to me).
No checks or quarantines that I could see at Cardiff Wales Airport.
At every point in the timeline it seems that the WAG were doing things just to be opposite / different to Westminster, same goes for Sturgeon.
The paradox in all this - if Johnson said lets all work together here's the strategy - then Drakeford / Sturgeon etc would be jumping up and down saying we will do what we want we are in charge of Health as it's a devolved power.
Then I remember Drakeford complaining that Johnson doesnt involve him on a daily basis.
ps being ahead of NI and Scotland in the infection rate is like Man City beating TNS and claiming a massive victory
