:bluebird: :bluebird: " NEIL HARRIS WILL TODAY UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS " :bluebird: :bluebird:

Tuesday 19th January 2021

Neil Harris has been bolstered by new signings Max Watters and Perry Ng, while Kieffer Moore's return last weekend represented a timely boost :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Marlon Pack will miss the clash through suspension following his red card against Norwich City on the weekend.

But Harris has stated, No more players coming in till players leave first.

NEIL HARRIS:

"The Club are trying to reduce the age of our squad."

NEIL HARRIS:

Jack Simpson…

He is a Bournemouth player. I am not going to talk too much about someone else’s player.

We have made an enquiry but I will leave it at that, no need to talk about it any further.

Harris

Perry Ng, delighted?

Fantastic to get Perry and Max (Watters) both in over the last 72 hours.

Two young players that we hope have got really bright futures. It’s great to be able to bring them into the club.

Harris

Type of player?

Firstly, we are getting a good character. A club captain of a side at 23. There is some leadership there at a young age. Some voice and presence and a boy who has played a lot of league football for a 24-year-old.

There is a lot to work on with him and we must give him time to improve as a right-back at Championship level.

I’m sure he will adapt to the level, as will Max, he can pass the ball, get up and down the pitch and end product.

Harris

Come straight in?

Yeah. Max comes straight in. We are hoping to have Perry available, just because of the transfer timing, it had to be registered by midday today, so just waiting to hear about that.

Harris

NEIL HARRIS:

ANY GOOD NEWS ON INJURIES?

I hope so.

We saw Kieffer coming on and play some minutes. We did rush him a little bit on Saturday because needs must.

We have had to be day by day with him and we will have to see how he is tomorrow to see if he can play more than half hour.

Sean Morrison is getting closer, if it’s not tomorrow then definitely next week.

Aden Flint is training. Lee Tomlin is getting closer all the time. Marlon Pack is missing through suspension.

We are getting healthier and getting players back.

NEIL HARRIS:

Perry, full-back has been a problem?

We never envisaged we were going to have Jordi out for four months, or the situation with injuries at centre-half as well.

Being able to get a right-back in has been the main aim. To get Perry in, a player we have chased for so long in so many windows.

Last few windows, this is probably the third window in which we have enquired about him so I am really pleased to get it done.

NEIL HARRIS:

11 points off play-offs, can it be turned around?

It’s a big ask, asking a lot. Every game that goes by where we don’t change our form it becomes tougher.

This game is capable of winning runs in succession. We need to win three or four and it takes you from a long way off to back in the fringes again.

When we get the players back we have got that.

It’s trying to give the players confidence again. It’s getting that first one, winning that first game.

That clean-sheet mentality, finding that edge. A little bit of luck with injuries, then I’m confident.

NEIL HARRIS:

Criticised historically, short-term signing, these two might show a longer-term vision?

I hope so.

The club are trying to reduce the age of the squad.

That’s not a stain on senior players at all, it’s important we get a mix, but you need younger players coming through.

Football, the business side of it is about becoming self-sustainable.

I am a massive believer in building our academy and recruiting players at the right age, coming into their prime.

And players who have a resale value in years to come. And players who have energy, drive and a point to prove.

There is long-term thinking in this, but we will look at adding senior players on loan or permanently.

Re: NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

Lee Tomlin, last year he played such a big role, biggest miss?

I think so. He has been a huge loss for us.

When you haven’t got the biggest squad, only 20 senior players, any player or two players in a single position is a huge loss.

But Tomlin in particular was a catalyst last year, the maverick who got us back up the table.

I’ve not spoken too much about it, but getting him back fit for 10 games or 15 games will be a massive boost. He has got the ability at this level to find a pass, magic to score from nothing, genius from a set play.

Having him back, he has got a way to go.

We are hopeful he will be back within four weeks, playing in the squad. Can we shave some time off that? I’ll be pushing for that!

He is on the training pitch. Day to day, full training, then it is about upping his minutes.

Jordi is a natural athlete, fit all the time. Tommo, at his age, is slightly different and we have to build him there slowly.

I would be very disappointed if he wasn’t back in the first-team fold in three weeks’ time.

NEIL HARRIS:

Any consideration to send Jordi back to Arsenal?

No. The fact he is going to be fit in four to five weeks means that he is back with us and he is involved.

Sending him back for a sustained period is not something I want to happen.

I am just hopeful that getting him back for 10 or 12 games will be a real bonus.

NEIL HARRIS:

Players need to go out if they come in, anyone close?

Joe Day and Gavin Whyte have gone.

If anyone goes out we have to bring someone in. It’s a case now, I’m happy with the players we’ve added, would I like to add more? Probably.

I think it would be that lads would have to go before anyone coming in. I’m always sympathetic to lads who haven’t had an opportunity and I will listen and try and accommodate that.

I don’t really want to let anyone go unless we could add to the group in that position.

Re: NEIL HARRIS:

Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:10 pm

NEIL HARRIS:

What have you seen from Max Watters?

Hunger to do well. Wants to improve, wants to learn. He is asking questions about how we play and what I expect from him.

He knows where the goal is, that’s for sure! You can see why he has scored goals this year, he is a natural finisher.

But I’ve only seen him for two quite short days on the training pitch, so I need to see more of him to really get a feel for him.

But I like his character and the way he handles himself. First impressions are very good off the field, the same with Perry.

They are the sort of characters we want to bring in the club.

Max, we need to be patient with him, me more so than anybody. But certainly looks really positive signs in the first few days.

NEIL HARRIS:

Tavio d’Almeida and Ntazana Mayembe have been absent for the under-23s, why is that?

Tavio has been injured. He has been out for quite a while now unfortunately, because he started the season with us in first-team friendlies.

Not playing today (against Swansea) and will still be a few weeks.

And Taz, he burst onto the scene a while ago, signed a pro contract. Potential, yes, but players are always going to go up and down at such a young age.

We just felt, first-team staff but academy staff in particular, maybe he just needs a settled time playing for the 18s before stepping back to the 23s again.

So, again, it’s that patience we always talk about. They burst onto the scene and everyone expects so much. We just have to be calm.

NEIL HARRIS:

Signed two players this week, more coming maybe, club are backing you, does that answer questions?

There is always speculation. When you’re not winning games I understand that and take responsibility for that.

I can talk about injury and things like that, but we need to win games of football, that appeases people.

We work as a recruitment department now. Yes, I have an opinion, and the club and transfer committee have an opinion, too.

We have reached a conclusion together to sign these players.

I am a believer in giving younger players a chance from our own academy when they are ready.

Still going on?

NEIL HARRIS:

This is why I think it should be kept in-house. We have enquired about players. We bid for Max and went back in, got kept under the radar. Same with Perry to a certain extent.

We are doing a lot of stuff where we are linked with players which are so farfetched it’s ridiculous, but some are correct as well.

Any contact over Josh Murphy?

NEIL HARRIS:

Enquiries, yes. Anything realistic, no. At the moment, Josh stays a huge part of it.

Josh is a player we have spoken about before, having not had a lot of game-time and is naturally someone who might need some minutes.

Josh has trained really well and continues to train well. He played against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and didn’t quite have the impact in the final third, but I was really pleased with his application and performance.

So, at the moment, no, nothing in that.

Harris is right about the play off places and having a chance , yes - No fecking chance whatsoever.

Hope Im wrong but for a manager to lose 4 games on the bounce - AGAIN , he would normally have been out the door by now.
Covid and the strange situation we find ourselves in has saved his bacon on this.
