HARRIS HAS TO GET PLAYERS OUT BEFORE SIGNING MORE PLAYERS

Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:44 am

The Bluebirds are keen to get players out the door in order to free up the cash to get bodies in this month's transfer window

Even though last week Neil Harris said nobody will be leaving as he needed to strengthen the squad.

Harris has been told there is no money, so he now needs to sell first.

Harris has stated, No more players coming in till players leave first.

A clutch of Championship clubs are exploring the option of signing Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy on loan this month, according to reports.

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris has made it clear he needs to get bodies out the door in order to free up funds for further recruitment this month.

City have already signed striker Max Watters from League Two outfit Crawley Town, in a deal which could rise to as much as £500,000 while the announcement of Crewe Alexandra right back Perry Ng is seemingly imminent.

Cardiff have already seen Gavin Whyte leave on loan to League One side Hull City during this window, but if Harris wants others in then he must make room both in his squad and on the wage bill.

According to Football Insider, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday are all keen to sign Murphy on loan.

The 25-year-old winger is Cardiff City's record signing, having joined in an £11m deal from Norwich City ahead of the Bluebirds' Premier League campaign.

He has shown glimpses of real quality during his time in a City shirt, however they have been far too fleeting and the winger is now way down the pecking order at Cardiff City Stadium.

It is understood that Harris, having already brought in a striker and hopefully a right back In Ng, has identified a pacey winger and a centre back as his two other priorities this month.

Given Murphy has played the equivalent of just over three Championship games this season - 302 minutes across 13 appearances - the idea of keeping him in the Welsh capital this month seems unviable.

The 25-year-old has not started a league game for City since November and has produced just one assist from his 15 outings this term.

It would mean game time for Murphy, a wage off the bill for Cardiff and the Welsh club would also be able to track his progress for the remainder of the season.

And, importantly, it will free up some cash to further bolster the club's options out wide.

Goodbye Ralls, Vaulks, Cunningham and Mr Pack!

Two out of Four will do?

Cunningham and Pack would do for me. I’d keep Ralls,,, I’m not sure about Vaulks though?

I’d almost forgotten about Vassell. What a total and utter waste of resources. I can see him being paid off, probably end of this season.

I have no problem with getting rid of Murphy or half a dozen other players in the squad really but the problem is replacing them. We are not in a good situation on the pitch right now so it is looking like the players we can attract might not be of the same quality. We have a manager who is not exactly in a secure position and a possibility of being in a relegation scrap. If we get rid of the likes of Murphy and replace them with players from the lower leagues I don’t necessarily think that’s the end of the world but what happens if results continue as they have been and we get sucked into a relegation battle, sack Harris and we have players from league 1 and 2. I know Murphy hasn’t been amazing but neither has anyone really so moving on individuals just doesn’t seem the answer.

Vaulks puts in a shift whenever he plays and he delivers a decent long throw in too saving Mozza for the headers. I found that Vaulks is more energetic on the pitch compared to Pack who seems to be way to much of a liability.

Definitely get shot of Pack, say farewell to Murphy (would rather sell him than loan him out and we’ll be losing at least £8m on him maybe more) Vassell is just a waste of money, easiest option there would be to terminate his contract. Glatzel needs to be moved on too. Cunningham I’m not so sure, Bagan is the future replacement for Bennet but we can’t rely on him permanently just yet so think keeping Cunningham until the summer would be beneficial to Bagan’s development.

I’d keep Baccuna too, he’s a versatile player and we don’t have many of them anymore after letting Patto go. Keep Hoilett until the summer at least and then see about permanent replacement, hopefully by then Tan will have had enough of Harris and got us a new decent manager or we’ll be culling the squad even more ready for League 1

All our players are lazy in their positions lately, but Bacuna can play both Defensive and midfield roles

Ralls & Pack get rid but I’d keep Vaulks & Cunningham for now and until the end of the season

NEIL HARRIS:

Players need to go out if they come in, anyone close?

Joe Day and Gavin Whyte have gone.

If anyone goes out we have to bring someone in. It’s a case now, I’m happy with the players we’ve added, would I like to add more? Probably.

I think it would be that lads would have to go before anyone coming in. I’m always sympathetic to lads who haven’t had an opportunity and I will listen and try and accommodate that.

I don’t really want to let anyone go unless we could add to the group in that position.

Any contact over Josh Murphy?

NEIL HARRIS:

Enquiries, yes. Anything realistic, no. At the moment, Josh stays a huge part of it.

Josh is a player we have spoken about before, having not had a lot of game-time and is naturally someone who might need some minutes.

Josh has trained really well and continues to train well. He played against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and didn’t quite have the impact in the final third, but I was really pleased with his application and performance.

So, at the moment, no, nothing in that.
