The Bluebirds fell to their sixth defeat in seven matches, but Neil Harris was upbeat in his side's display against top-of-the-table Norwich City

An upbeat Neil Harris has told his Cardiff City players how proud he was of their performance despite suffering a 2-1 defeat by Norwich City.

The Canaries took the advantage early on in the first half and doubled it not long after, leaving Cardiff, who were also later reduced to 10 men, with a mountain to climb late on in the piece.


They finished the game strongly, the hosts, but just did not have enough to get over the line and grab themselves a late equaliser.

However, with pressure no doubt mounting following six defeats in seven matches, Harris voiced his pride in his players' performances and told them that is the benchmark for the remainder of the season.




NEIL HARRIS:



"I'm really proud of the performance, what an effort by the boys," Harris said after the match.

"What an effort for the 90 minutes, but for the last 25, with 10 men, we went toe to toe with by far the best team in the division.

"I thought there were some outstanding performances in a makeshift back four. I thought Joe Bennett and Joel Bagan were magnificent.

"I thought Joe Ralls, not just his goal but his performance, and Marlon (Pack) was excellent until he got his red card.

"I thought Kieffer (Moore) coming back into the team was outstanding, gave us a real boost and dimension to our play.


"On the whole, it's a massive positive. It might sound crazy we didn't get the point, if not three, we wanted, but that's the level of performance my players have got to have for the rest of the season.

"The application, the attitude, we had on the back of the week we had was first class and I expect more of that and more quality on Wednesday against QPR."

While it was undoubtedly a better second-half display from the Bluebirds, the damage had been done in the first half.

It means Cardiff are now winless in their last five games and supporters are once again voicing their concerns.

However, the manager batted back any suggestion that he needed a win against QPR on Wednesday to stay in his job.

"It's a pointless question, asking me that," he replied.

"I'm really pleased with the performance today, a top performance by us.

"Were we good enough in the first five minutes defending a corner? No. That's the difference between the two teams.

"Was it a much improved performance? Have I seen application and desire from my team on the training pitch all week? Massively.

"When we get the players back and we add in the transfer window like we have today, and will continue to add in the transfer window, we will get better and better."

We were shocking for the first hour, better for 15 mins when Norwich took the foot off the gas before we scored then ok with 10 men whilst Norwich just saw the game out comfortably

Thags no benchmark we were outplayed by a good but not great team at home

Like Said 2 ..... pukki + goalie... whilst we were at full strength ! but cannot for life think why we didn't play on 3rd choice keeper he had sfa to do all we did was put aimless balls in middle with no thought to find a player shows lack of preparation for game or analysis of opposition? We had Morrison Tomlin and Tutu and Vassell [said tongue in cheek]out as well.Moore just back.The injuries are crippling us.

Agree about testing goalie and does show lack of preparation and analysis of opposition! But only pukki + goalie not in side how many players were we missing? We are light year behind because we keep getting managers who do not play passing football? Unfortunately it's been successful compared to 99.9% of teams in championship so why change things? Harris needs to go to bring out the best of the layers we have as we are capable of playing good football.

I can tell you now Allan, Tan did in the past try and have a say on the team playing.

I got told today Dalman, Choo have given a vote of no confidence and it’s Tan who is holding out, he’s a big fan of Harris, why because he is a yes man.
