PAYPAL SCAM

Tue Sep 07, 2010 5:25 pm

Just looking for some help...I've returned from holiday on Sunday and today checked my paypal account as an item I was selling needed the funds transfering to my bank account. After checking someone has gained access to my paypal account and transfered the money out but it shows no details. Anyone suffered the same? I've complained to Paypal but dont hold much hope of getting the cash back....£50+, would of paid for my beers Saturday

I had sold an item on ebay the day we went on holiday but had no access out there to put the funds into my bank. The funds sat there for three days after sale until someone got in and looks to have transferred that money to himself but I have no details aside from their name and email but on searching sellers neither appear which means they are obvioulsy made up.

Contact Paypal, see what info they have on the transaction, you should also do a full security scan of your comp, like right now, then get some good up to date software installed.... you might say i'm a bit ocd but I scan my comp everytime I buy or sell anything, saved my arse a few times....

PayPal are an absolute nightmare to contact. I have a contact phone number but it's in work, as soon as I get it i will post it here as they tend to ignore emails. I had some chancer trying to put funds into my account. Only small amounts but nonetheless unerving to say the least. I had to cancel the account and start a new one and then wait a week or so for it to verify.

Just to let you know I have today received a full refund into my account apparently the twa* who did it to me did the same to a large number of accounts that day that had funds left in their Paypal account. My advise is when you've had money paid into Paypal get it into your account ASAP!! :ayatollah:

Good news mate!
I found the phone number but when you phone them you have to give them a web pin number which you can only get by logging into your account and going to the help center (which tries everything it can not to give you the number). This number is valid for only 1 hour! The whole site and company is an absolute nightmare. The phone number is an international one too (Ireland).

I had a similar issue but for a lot more money than £50 some time ago and I have to say that PayPal were very good over it and I got my 'stolen' money back quite quickly....with not too much quibbling

Never knew what happened to the thieving bastards who accessed the account, as PayPal never release that info

They (PayPal) do have a contact telephone number which used to be 08707 307191 but it may have changed. Dim problem though....it'll be on their web-site....even if you have to go through a long seres of pages designed for you nOT to find said number!!

Chin up and fingers crossed. Let us know what happens....

Also look out for fake emails who are posing as PayPal telling you that there is a problem with your account. By no means whatsoever click on the links. The only way to see if you have any issues is to log in to your account.

What's with this paypal scam? Does this mean that paypal isn't trustworthy anymore?

PayPal is trustworthy but there are malicious people out there who purport to be from PayPal so they scrape emails from the internet and send out newsletters warning you that your PayPal account has either been compromised or you need to change your password, or 'you have not used your account in a while' etc..
If you look at the sender email address it usually is nothing to do with PayPal at all - the most common being a French email address (.fr) You can report these emails to PayPal though and whatever you do do not click the links in the email just trash them. Like banks and building societies PayPal will never ask for your password or other such details via email.
