'I'm fed up'- Cardiff City boss Neil Harris bats away questions over his future and suggests club's mentality needs to change

The Bluebirds were knocked out the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest and the manager says the team needs to change their fortunes around quickly


Cardiff City manager Neil Harris has demanded better after losing to Nottingham Forest.


Neil Harris batted away any questions over his future as Cardiff City manager but insisted his team needs a sharp turnaround in fortunes after Nottingham Forest dumped them out of the FA Cup.


Harris said he was "really disappointed" with the early goal, with Gaetan Bong given far too much space to get the cross in and the manager asked his players: "Did they do enough hard yards in the build-up to it?"

The Bluebirds' early mistake in their own box was compounded by their lack of cutting edge at the top end of the pitch, despite an improved team display overall.

The result means Cardiff have now lost five or their last six games in all competitions, four on the bounce, leaving them knocked out of both domestic cup competitions and sitting 15th in the Championship.


Harris has spoken candidly in the past when quizzed about the pressure he is under following a string of disappointing results, but following Saturday's match the manager was in no mood to discuss his future.




NEIL HARRIS:


"I can't control that," Harris said of his position. "I'm fed up of taking questions on that, if I'm honest. I'd rather focus on my players.

"It was a much better performance, a game we completely controlled and we should never have lost the game. But we have lost the game, so I understand that is four defeats.

"Norwich and Brentford beat us, Wycombe, we gave poor goals away, [Filip] Benkovic cost us two goals in that game. Conceding two goals in a game we shouldn't lose.

"Then we lose today in the FA Cup, so I understand the question, but I'll be fully focused on Norwich next week."

The poor results have stirred disquiet among sections of the Cardiff City fan base and Harris understands results have not been good enough.

Asked about the backing he has received from the club's board, Harris said: "Unless I'm told otherwise, I've got the club's support.

"We talk internally all the time. The chief exec, chairman and owner, I speak to them all regularly, I spoke to them yesterday.

"They know areas of the pitch where I want to improve, they know the injury nightmare we have - we haven't seen Lee Tomlin yet this season. It's important we get influential players out on the pitch.

"But the club want better and I want better results."

The defeat by Forest will do little to win over those who would prefer to see Harris out of the club and things do not get easier with top-of-the-table Norwich City to come next week.

And while Harris understands the criticism which has been levelled at him and his team this season, he suggested the problems might run deeper than just the manager.


"I understand criticism when you don't win games," he added.

"I understand expectation levels like when I came in last season and came fifth in the division when we looked miles away from it when I came in.

"I understand I've built the expectation levels for this year.

"We started slowly, had a fantastic run and we are in a bit of a slump again at the moment.

"People think the easiest thing is to just change the manager. Sometimes you have to look deeper than that within the club. The mindset, the mentality, the recruitment over a period and then what we want to do in the future.

"I want better results and I want to change the mentality within the football club."

Neil, I think nearly all the fans are fed up with you and your excuses.

Especially when most of your excuses are based on things that aren't true.

Watching NH in the stand and Livermore on the side inspired no confidence in me at all, so what it does to the players is questionable.Not once have I seen an ounce of passion from either of them.

Completely agree mate really cheap move to throw benkovic under the bus. The lad hadn’t played a second of first team football under him and he got chucked in in a physical game. But Forest have been gash since he took over too.

Does Harris realise that this goes with the job? He may be irritated by it, but fed up sounds like he’s given in. Very negative response and not taking responsibility for his part in defeats.

FA Cup (and all cups) have historically been where the club has a good go at it. 1927 is a long way back, but reaching deep into tournaments is not. He needs to think and take a long look in the mirror. The cups are great motivators for the players and fans.

The old adage: “We can concentrate on the league” doesn’t wash either. Not much inspiration there. Too low at the moment to make it interesting.

He is on borrowed time to say the least.

I am a pensioner who has supported our beloved bluebirds for 55 years , you say your fed up how dare you you cheeky b*stard , I save my money all year round to make sure I can renew my season ticket , I have brought my boys and grandchildren up to watch city through thick and thin but you are driving them away my eldest grandson a die hard home and away decided to day he didn’t want to watch the game and it was because of you , I am so upset and angry that you have the cheek to make the comments you do and worst still believe them , I feel all of us can’t take anymore of your inept management and coaching style just bugger off and take that plank Livermore with you

I agree he's hardly transformed Forest, they were absolute rubbish, we totally outplayed them and lost due to the fact we don't create enough clear chances and when we do we don't put them away. If we could defend properly and take the chances we do create we would have beaten them easily.

I find it to be part of the DNA of cockneys. Cockneys and scousers both talk shite.
