" Mark Delaney "

Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:48 pm

Mark Delaney, former Cardiff City player, will take charge of Aston Villa tonight for their FA Cup Third Round tie against Liverpool.

Villa's manager Dean Smith and most of his coaching staff will not be at the match and the majority of the squad will be made up of Under 23 players.

This is because a large number of Aston Villa first team players have tested positive for COVID-19, and they will play an Under 23 squad to contain the outbreak within their first team.

Delaney is a coach for the club's Under 23 squad.

And no doubt Liverpool will also put out a team of U23's and youth. It'll probably be a better game than watching the garbage that the Premier league teams are serving up this season, absolutely bores the arse off me now. I can't count the games I've turned off watching them pass back and for in defence until it goes back to the keeper 14 times before they decide to get it up to half way. Then it's up to the opposition box and all the way back again. Nobody prepared to take a shot when it's on, prefer a pass and then back to defenders. I know there's been goals scored but modern football is a turn off.
God I don't half miss being at CCS.

Aston Villa, as expected, have no first team players in their squad tonight. The starting eleven is made up of seven players from their Under 23 squad, and four from their Under 18 squad.

I also assumed Liverpool would play their Under 23s and Under 18s. But below is the line up they've chosen to go with

Caoimhin Kelleher
Neco Williams
Rhys Williams
Fabinho
James Milner
Jordan Henderson
Georginio Wijnaldum
Curtis Jones
Takumi Minamino
Sadio Mane
Mohamed Salah

1-1 at half time.

Fair play to the young Villa players.
