What's in a name?

Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:39 pm

I've always been amazed, sometimes aghast and occasionally agog at the names parents bless their offspring with.

I'm not talking about the youngsters today going all gangsta LA ghetto or simply copying the latest TV non celebrity or fashion accessory name BUT the real old fashioned giggle worthy moniker.

Just saw a councillor on the news Michael Michael.

Ex school mates Timothy Ian Thomas, Teresa Green, P Brain and John Thomas.

The ribbing I used to dish out. Apologies now I'm older.

Thankfully my own parents were thorough to make sure there was no way I'd be open to any cruel school time ribbing.

Happy New year to all,

Mike Roedick.

The recently retired head groundsman at Lords cricket ground was Mick Hunt.
Cant think why he never used the more traditional shortened version of Michael.

I went to school with someone called Verian Smart and once met a guy with the classic Mike Hunt name.

There was a lady in my village called Wendy who married a guy with the surname House, but she refused to take on his surname and he took hers on instead.

My Daughters middle name is Ninian, but I’ll take the hit on that one.

Or, Mr & Mrs Curtain named their daughter Annette.

On an even worse level the old classics !!-

Who wrote a novel called "rusty bedsprings" - Mr I P Knightly
Itor abollockoff wrote "ruptured Russian"
