Luke jephcott

Been impressed with him at argyle this season, still young as well, be good too see us go for him, doubt it would cost the world either

Can you see anything happening at all this window ? Be good if we could recoup some of that 11 million we shelled out on Murphy

There’s also a decent right back in league two Kyle knoyle, wouldn’t cost the world either and be a decent addition as cover

We have got enough league 1 and 2 quality players in the squad. We need experienced , quality championship level players and manager to get out of this league.

There’s nothing wrong with league one or two talent, look at Ivan Toney

We are not good enough to sign world class players and I’m fed up of seeing journey men come and go, that kid at argyle is 20 years old and will be a future star, banging the goals in at league one, wouldn’t cost he earth and will be in the wales squad soon

Players like Toney are few and far between and also cost £6mill plus to buy.

We have tried these lower league strikers before and 9 times out of ten they fail

Alex Revell and Eoin Doyle Jump to mind straight away.

Gavin Whyte was brilliant in the lower leagues apparently but has been very poor here.

Nelsons lack of quality at this level is starting to show through after a promising start

Vassell is injury prone because he can't handle the physicality of this level

In fact I find it hard to think of a player who we have signed from a division below us currently for a long time that has been a success here .

If this kid is 20 already and that good he would have been snapped up by now by a bigger club

Mendez Laing and Etheridge spring to mind!!!

These are the types of player we need to be going for, even just as back-up. We should have been doing this when at PL level instead of signing journeymen back-up players.

Etheridge spent most of his career at a championship club and only had the odd year below.
Mendez-laing did ok for us, nothing special and like i said the stars are few and far between.

It's a difficult one because 'journeyman' players will have track record of doing the job expected. Signing players stepping up to the level is a risk. I agree it's more exciting to Sign a lower league youngster trying to find a Ollie Watkins type :ayatollah: :bluebird:

I agree with you on most of our signings but you do Etheridge and NML a diservice. Etheridge was hardly well known and was at Walsall for three years before we pinched him on a free. He and Mendez Laing were crucial members of a side that got promoted to the Premier League and both did OK in the Premier League. On the day we belatedly played with freedom at Old Trafford they were the two best players on the pitch.

Never rated Etheridge . He was very lucky to have a very good defence in front of him for two years. He makes great long distance saves for the camera but was very poor at organising , catching and one on one's, constantly got beat at his near post and was woeful at kicking. He's a very average championship keeper and its now showing through. There is a reason he sat in the stands for the first ten years of his career before dropping divisions.

Mendez laing is a good championship winger who had a few good games in the premier league but a lot more poor ones. Hes a lad who should have gone further but didn't.

For every Vardy and Toney there are 1000 Gavin Whytes and Eion Doyles

We have multiple lower division players in the squad already. If we add more we risk being dragged down to that level. We wed proven quality not gambles.

Players like the ones mentioned are only worth a gamble in the u23s first . Other than that I would prefer to stay away from them
